Last night was so much fun! The Gallery at Morningstar held a fabulous opening reception for 70 artists and bunches of friends and art enthusiasts. The show title is “Sacred Earth: Sacred Responsibilities”. My art entry is embroidery on layers of plastic mesh, waste from colorful produce bags and titled, “Mesh Everlasting: Our Microplastic Disaster”.
🌎
It was awesome to see Tom and Amelia again. They are curators of the show and always so warm and welcoming. Just love them! The refreshments were a mouth watering treat while the background music was by The Seth Peagler Band.
🌍
It’s always special to meet a fellow South African over here, and last night I adored meeting Sarah Jackson. Turns out we will see each other again tonight at another art opening! 💖
🌏
Lastly, may you have a blessed day. I hope you feel very loved 🥰

Hey Greater Charlotte area friends! This one’s for you, but feel free to share it with anyone who might be interested! ArtPop is calling for applications for their 2026 Class of Artists. The Open Call is fast approaching on February 23.

Back in 2022, I knew little about ArtPop but I realised that two of my friends had their artwork displayed on billboards in the area. If they had been painters, I might never have considered applying, but since one is a ceramicist and the other a fiber artist—just like me—I thought, ‘Why not give it a shot?’

Now, looking back, I can’t imagine where I would be if I hadn’t taken that chance. Being part of the 2023 ArtPop cohort has given me so much more than a vinyl billboard. My fiber art was showcased on that billboard which traveled to various high-traffic locations around Charlotte and beyond. Independence Blvd, I-77 and I-85. Digital displays included Ballantyne Village, The Promenade, Panther Stadium, Charlotte Douglas Airport, and even on a Lynx train station! The epitome of amazing locations? It literally glowed in New York City’s Times Square on a stunning 96-ft illuminated display for a whole month. Incredible, right?

But the true highlight of this journey has been the incredible community of artists I’ve connected with. They are some of the most talented and generous people I’ve ever met, and I’ve formed wonderful friendships that I cherish.

If you’re an artist, I strongly encourage you to take the leap and apply to ArtPop! You have the chance to gain exposure and be part of something transformative. Trust me, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose!” 💙

Happy Tuesday after a chilly but invigorating weekend!

There has been curiosity about what the backs of my chairs look like since they are seen from all angles. I understand! Since I did a post about the blue chair, I’ll do one here too. I also show how I “signed” them with a wooden tag! 🌸

🌟 These are not my Top Nine posts, but rather a few highlights from my 2025 fiber art journey. I continue to explore embroidery on non-traditional surfaces. This year brought two significant milestones: exhibiting my fiber art with the Guild of Charlotte Artists at the Mint Museum of Art and co-curating a fiber art show at Nine Eighteen Nine Gallery, where my work was showcased for two months.

The last five months of 2025 have been challenging as my husband dealt with fractures and recovery from a fall. Life as we knew it changed, and I stepped into the role of caregiver. With his upcoming spine surgery in early 2026, this journey continues. I’m hopeful to regain my artistic mojo in this next chapter and have projects lined up to keep me inspired. 🙏🤞

Though I’ve been somewhat absent from Instagram lately, your support, encouragement, likes, and comments mean the world to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to this amazing community of long-time followers and friends. Wishing you all a Happy New Year! 🎊❤️🥂

A little time lapse as I worked on one of the sides. I should take the time to set up my phone to do this more often. Once again, the inspector came to check on progress 😻

December is speeding along. Tomorrow will be mid month, yet only 10 days until Christmas. Eek! I’m far from ready but so excited for the arrival of our family, and everyone will be home this year! How are you getting along with preparations? 🎄

Welcome to a belated tour of our fiber art show, Innovations in Fibers! The video was really long so I sped it up slightly and cropped it into clips. Please scroll through to see them all and I hope you enjoy seeing the lovely large *Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery* where I am one of the artists-in-residence. (Behind each black door is a working artist’s studio)

Co-curator, Pam Imhof, and I were most excited to plan the layout of the art. We had no inkling what fiber art submissions we would receive from the call for art, and were over the moon when it came together so cohesively: by color, texture, and many amazing mediums.

Next post I’ll share some shots of the opening reception. This has all been very drawn out by my husband’s accident 2 months ago and how our lives have changed in an instant.

Thank you to Joanne Rogers for her idea to present a fiber art show in her gallery 🤗 Also thank you to all the talented artists:

Calendula are such happy flowers. I haven’t planted any in a few years but they seemed to be the right companions for the coneflowers! This hanging will be on display at the Innovations in Fibers Show at next month

There hasn’t been much in my feed lately. Sorry not sorry because my daughter and her husband are over from Germany and I’ve been soaking in all the precious moments! This is a recent hoop on crocheted lime green wire that I’ll debut at my upcoming fiber art show. I’m seriously considering leaving off the outer hoop. Your thoughts?
