On Thursday January 24, 2019 I was diagnosed with Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is the presence of abnormal cells inside a milk duct in the breast. DCIS is considered the earliest form of breast cancer. DCIS is noninvasive, meaning it hasn't spread out of the milk duct and has a low risk of becoming invasive. Although my diagnosis didn't come at a later stages the type of cancer I had was triple negative which is normally a more aggressive type of breast cancer. I had surgery back March of this year and began radiation therapy in May. Since I completed radiation I feel great. My advice to other cancer patients would be to surround yourself with positive people that love and support you. I'm so blessed to have had such an early detection stage 0 not everyone is so fortunate. During this period did not I have the slightest doubt that I wouldn’t be okay. I know that only God could kept as calm as I was. Especially since I lost my Mom to Pancreatic cancer when I was just 7 years old. Since then I’ve been able to continue living my best life. I'm so grateful for of the support that I've received over the past year from my Family, Friends, Doctors, Surgeons, Oncologist, Therapist, etc. I am truly grateful. For the most part I kept this private but tonight I decided to share my story to inspire and encourage other young women that may or not fighting the same fight as me. You are not alone. I will be sharing more about this journey over next few days.
