If I were building a new home, here’s where I’d spend my money! 🏡✨
Not all upgrades are created equal! As an interior designer, these are the areas I would prioritize when building a home—investments that make a lasting impact on both the look and value of your home.
1. REAL MATERIALS 🤍
Hardwood floors, natural marble, and quality finishes will always have my vote! These timeless materials bring character, warmth, and long-term value to a home. And don’t overlook the details—flooring direction, tile layout, and installation patterns matter just as much as the materials themselves. These are decisions you’ll live with for decades, so get them right the first time!
2. QUALITY CABINETRY 🔨
This is NOT where I would cut corners! Invest in well-made, custom cabinetry with thoughtful storage, soft-close features, and beautiful finishes. If the budget allows, incorporate glass-front cabinets or special details that elevate the overall design. Good cabinetry is something you’ll appreciate every single day.
3. STATEMENT LIGHTING 💡
I always say lighting is the jewelry of the home! It’s one of the best ways to add personality, character, and a designer touch. Don’t settle for basic builder-grade fixtures when beautiful lighting can completely transform a space.
WHAT CAN WAIT?
Millwork & Wallpaper-
These are two of my FAVORITE ways to take a home from builder-basic to beautifully custom. Wall molding, detailed trim, and gorgeous wallpaper add layers of sophistication and personality.
The good news? These can always be added later! But if your budget allows, incorporating them during the build creates that polished, move-in-ready look from day one.
My biggest advice? Spend your money on the things that are expensive and disruptive to change later. You can always layer in the pretty details over time!
