Developmental screening is a test used to determine whether children are learning and grasping basic skills like they are supposed to, or if they may be delayed.
During this screening, a parent might be asked to play with their child to see how he or see speaks, behaves, and moves. A delay indicated in any of these areas could be an indication of an issue.
These screenings typically occur during routine well-visit with your child’s pediatrician at 9, 18, and 24 or 30 months. This screening is typically followed by a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, which typically yields further assessment and diagnosis.
