Ready, set,… KNIT!

Today is the Sixth Annual and Donna is ready to knit for 12 hours to raise awareness and money for four amazing charities battling hunger. It’s our first year participating as a store, and we’ve already TRIPLED Donna’s fundraising goal!

Can we quadruple our goal?

Can Donna finish her project (Sif’s Summer Sweater) during the Knit-a-Thon?

Last summer, we hosted a trunk show with Plied co-owner . We’d been fans of Ann’s designs and products for years, but after spending the day with her at Sister-Arts, we knew... we had to have her back to teach!

We are so excited to welcome Ann Weaver back to Sister-Arts next month for a weekend of workshops, including:

🍞 Introduction to Brioche Knitting

🪢 Latvian Braids & Variations

🪡 Mending & Embellishing

Ann has been teaching knitting across the country for over 15 years, and she’ll be bringing her expertise to us on May 16 & 17. Registration is open now at the link in our bio!

A big new shipment from is here and on our shelves! 🎉

MadelineTosh is much beloved for their smooth bases and super-saturated hand-dyed colorways. For this spring, we picked a dramatic selection of nature-inspired browns and greens, glowing purples, and punchy reds in Tosh DK, Tosh Sock, and Impression Silk Mohair. Pair the same colorways together in two different bases, or mix and match for unlimited marling and striping possibilities. You can’t do wrong with these amazing hues!

The Sister-Arts retreat crew has arrived home with our minds full of ideas and our suitcases full of yarn! And we still have a few more photo updates for you, too 😊

We enjoyed two inspiring days of class with , who really got our creative juices flowing with exercises combining stitch patterns, stripes, and marling. Just look at all those knitters in deep focus and their beautiful swatches!

If you’re interested in this type of stitch and color exploration, we highly recommend Cecelia’s books MAKING MARLS and REVERSIBLE KNITTING, which are available at Sister-Arts Studio. Both books work similarly to stitch dictionaries, and will change your perspective on knitting and color in amazing ways!

Who else loves wool… and the creatures who make it?? 🐑😍

Our next Isager adventure was a day in the Uldens Hus mini-mill, where they spin local Danish wool into yarn and educate the public about all the wonderful properties of natural fibers, and the challenges of making yarn. We did a little shopping, of course! And our friends the sheep and the alpacas are entertaining us every day ❤️

Don’t forget: there is NO STITCH NIGHT tonight, Thursday 3/26, and the shop will close early at 6pm. All other days our hours remain the same. See you soon!

We’ve just wrapped up our first two days of classes at with the wonderful , who taught us exaggerated slip stitches and 3-Dimensional cables! And in our downtime we’ve been soaking up the North Sea and delicious Danish food.

Hej from Copenhagen! Donna, Maria, Emma, Veronica, and about a dozen more of us from the Sister-Arts extended family are starting off our Denmark adventures with a quick weekend in this delightful city before heading to our retreat with Isager yarns. We miss you, but we also got you a little something… a Spring Sale at Sister-Arts!

Shara, Valerie, and Cassidy are doing some spring cleaning while we’re gone and hosting a fabulous Spring Sale here at the shop! Last year, Shara had a lot of fun marking things down for you all... so let’s see what trouble she gets up to this year 😉

Breaking yarn news! We’ve received a very small back order of the very difficult to get Cloud and Cloud Tweed and have a few skeins left after fulfilling standing orders. We have:

- 5 skeins of Cloud Tweed in color 4, aka the infamous trout colorway (This yarn is more or less out of production, so grab it while you can!)

-13 skeins of Lang Cloud in color 20, a bright mix of olive, pinks, and blue

This yarn is first come, first served. No holds, no shipping, and no phone orders. Just come on by and get some fluffy cloud goodness!

Well…so much for an early spring, huh? 🥶

No worries—we Chicagoans are used to a “false spring,” and frankly it’s nice to not have to pack away our wool sweaters and red hats just yet. But if you are looking ahead to spring, check out our newest spring yarn: PIUMA from !

This beautiful fluffy confection is 62% merino, 26% cotton, and a touch of nylon for strength. It’s light as a feather and super soft. When knit up, the texture is somewhere between a traditional boucle and a cuddly teddy coat. And how much do you love the color palette? It’s like a basket of Easter candy, a little ray of spring sunshine in the shop 🐣👒🪺🌸🐰
