Goodafternoon to all!
From Our Book Club, ‘A Quiet Place’.
Today I counted again. Happy to say we were 10 in no. today, including me, 11.
We do a little prayer at the beginning of the session, calling on the Word of Life. Words are powerful and they speak to us in many ways.
We began listening to them silently today. Each of us took our cozy little spots and read silently for 15 minutes.
Silent reading is a powerful practice initiated into young children. It allows time for, reflection, introspection and self growth. When asked, how it felt, we got great answers from them. “It helps us bring calm,”Tanushmaya said. “It helped us look at pictures and read with pictures to understand better”, someone said.
Allowing them silent reading time from a young age is as important as reading aloud to them and telling them a story.
It satisfies curiosity, befriend a companion ( a book ) and gives a feeling of entirely owning the cuboid in your hand as much as it owns you.
We can start with setting aside for them 15 minute silent reading ritual a day.
We did a story called ‘The Sweetest Mangoes”
Children’s books are always fun. This was no exception. We laughed together as we moved from page to page latching on to each word. The mangoes were juicy, pulpy and ripened. We tasted it, yes, we did 😋with Suma and Jyoti our girls in the story, sitting on the mango tree branch they sat on while they ate it! 😋😋😋
Until next time.
