Mozzarella Fried Cheese Bites
Sometimes nicknamed “cheese bombs” in places like Oregon and Washington
Ingredients:
• 10 mozzarella sticks
• 1 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
• 1 cup flour – helps crumbs stick
• 2 large eggs – whisked
• 1/4 cup milk – for smooth egg mix
Directions:
• Cut cheese sticks into halves
• Dredge each piece in flour, egg/milk, and bread crumbs twice
• Set on a tray and freeze for half an hour
• Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F
• Fry until golden and bubbly, 90 seconds max
• Remove and cool briefly on a wire rack
Tips:
• Cheese must be frozen before frying—non-negotiable!
• Try adding red pepper flakes to the breading for heat
• Serve over a bed of arugula with marinara drizzle for a classy appetizer
• Try this for movie nights or girls’ get-togethers
