Saturday was Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women awareness day. If you would like to learn more about the movement and cause I have included some links below. The goal is to draw attention to the issue and get local law enforcement to lend a hand to those on the reservations trying to find these women or people that took their lives. Our women, girls, and two-spirts are being taken from us in an alarming way. As of 2016, the National Crime Information Center has reported 5,712 cases of missing American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls. Indigenous artists recognized across the 2026 JUNO Award nominations.

Canada’s national music awards, the JUNO Awards, have announced their 2026 nominees. This year’s nominations include Indigenous artists across multiple genres, including Alternative, Roots, Rap, Blues, and Indigenous-specific categories.

Indigenous nominees across genres include:

• Aysanabee — Alternative Album of the Year
• William Prince — Contemporary Roots Album of the Year
• Snotty Nose Rez Kids (with SonReal) — Rap Single of the Year
• Crystal Shawanda — Blues Album of the Year

The University of Minnesota has reached an agreement to return the Cloquet Forestry Center’s land to the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

The 3,400-acre forest sits entirely within the Fond du Lac Reservation and has long been used for research, education, and outreach. If finalized, the land will return to the Band while the Forestry Center continues operating through collaborative stewardship.

About 400 acres still require legislative approval, but discussions are ongoing. If approved, the transfer would mark an important step toward restoring treaty lands and strengthening partnerships in forest management and research.
