Over a decade ago, a first kiss under a tree in the rain with the lovely person that would become my partner and wife, spurred a touching thought to make her an engagement ring from that tree. Two years later the ring would come to be and unfortunately broke. It was time to make a replacement from the branch I had squirreled away.

Roughing out bowls while the wood is still wet and is easier to cut. After turning, they are waxed and allowed to air dry over 6-12 months distorting but not cracking along the way. This video has some fun music Included.

First of two turnings of four maple bowls. This process is called roughing out. They will now sit and dry for several months to a year These pieces of maple were salvaged from a tree that came down in the neighborhood.
