Ogham is an ancient and beautiful Celtic Inscription, dating from the 4th Century. It was the earliest system of writing to appear in Ireland and is a phonetic language read from the bottom to top. It is pronounced Oh-am, or Og-am (the old irish way), a name which some Archaeologists believe is related to the Celtic Goddess, Ogmios. Ogham was engraved on wood and on stone and modern day examples can be found on huge standing stones in Ireland, especially in the South West of the country.
