As this storm moves through, a friendly reminder from The Plaid Dog Workshop:
stay safe, stay warm, and don’t underestimate weather that clearly woke up cranky.

Colorado folks — you know the drill. Layers, patience, and pretending this is all totally normal.
Texas friends — if you’re getting a foot of snow, please know we are equal parts concerned and impressed. That is not in the user manual.

We’re still here, just operating in full winter mode while Mother Nature reminds everyone she’s in charge. No panic, no disappearing acts — just a temporary slowdown until fingers thaw and roads behave.

Take care of yourselves, check on your neighbors, keep the pups warm, and let’s all agree this weather has had enough attention for the week. 🐾🔥

We will be at the Smokey Hills High School Craft Show on March 7. Stop by if you are in the area and help out one of our local High Schools.

The Spring Craft Fair will be held the first Saturday in March at Smoky Hill High School. There are over 170 crafters who participate in this event. PTCO is responsible for the fair, concessions and vendor meals during this event.

Why Do I Focus on Pet Memorial Items?

Losing a pet leaves a space that words can’t quite fill. Anyone who’s shared life with a dog, cat, or any beloved companion knows—they’re not just pets, they’re family.

When I started creating memorial items at The Plaid Dog Workshop, it wasn’t about business. It was about healing. After losing my own dogs through the years, I found comfort in having something tangible to hold onto—a reminder of the bond we shared. Sometimes it’s a collar that still carries their scent, their tags, a leash that once tugged relentlessly, the bed they snoozed the day away in, or a favorite toy that sits quietly where they left it.

Those simple things—things that used to be part of everyday life—suddenly become treasures. They remind us of morning walks, muddy paws, and quiet evenings when all we needed was their company.

That’s why I create memorial pieces. A handcrafted urn, a paw print engraving, or a custom keepsake can transform those everyday reminders into something lasting—something that honors the life and love that never truly leaves us.

I understand that grief is deeply personal. My goal is never to sell to someone’s pain, but to help bring a bit of peace to the space love left behind. Every piece I make carries that intention—with care, with respect, and with the hope that it helps someone heal.

A New Year, Carrying the Love Forward 🐾

This new year feels a little different for us.

This past year, we said goodbye to Auzzi — our Plaid Dog namesake, Gail's constant constant companion, and a big part of the heart behind The Plaid Dog Workshop. Like so many of you, we learned firsthand how quiet a space can feel when a beloved friend is no longer physically beside you… and how loud their presence still is in memory.

As the calendar turns, we’re reminded that love doesn’t end when a life does. It simply changes how it shows up.

That belief is at the core of everything we make. Every memorial piece that leaves our shop is crafted slowly and intentionally, with deep respect for the bond it represents — because we understand how personal that bond is. There’s no timeline for grief, no right way to remember, and no rush to be “ready.”

Whether this year brings healing, reflection, or simply moments of quiet remembrance, we’re grateful to walk that path alongside you — carrying the love forward, just as we’re carrying Auzzi with us into the year ahead.

Here is a laser carving on acrylic. Auzzi was the original picture, Then I used AI to place the scene around him as a photopgraph. Next step was to create the laser carving in acrylic from the AI photo. Cool effects and very fun!
