Learn to Sew with Knits with Nat
Mondays, November 16 & 23, 5:30pm to 8:00pm

Learn how to sew a t-shirt, and learn tips for sewing with knit fabrics! This is a great first garment class with knit fabrics, as students will review serger basics, and how to professionally finish hems with a 2-needle topstitch.

** Please note that you do not need a serger for this class. Students may choose to sew the t-shirt entirely on the sewing machine, or borrow a serger during class. Nat will go over both options!

Sidney Sweatshirt with Anita
Sunday, September 27, 5:00pm to 8:00pm

Want to make a boxy sweatshirt that goes together quickly and easily using your serger (or sewing machine)? Anita will walk you through each step of making the Sidney Sweatshirt pattern by Merchant and Mills.

During this class you will cut out your pattern and sew your pieces together all in one session. This cozy pattern is gender neutral, easy to fit and has matching or contrasting rib trim. To get the structured boxy shape of Sidney, choose a medium to heavy weight sweatshirt fabric, jersey, or cotton jacquard. Stretchy ribbing is best for the trim but any knit fabric could be used for your trim.

Don’t have a serger? No problem! We have some available for you to use during class.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Reverse Appliqué with Erin
Saturday, September 26, 11:00am to 3:00pm

With just a few basic embroidery stitches, you can turn a plain (or stained) shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie into a unique work of art! Use your own design, or use a stencil to mark your design onto your garment. Learn basic embroidery stitches and mark-making to create your design.

We’ll explore ideas and learn how to secure your fabric to your piece of clothing. We will baste stitch the fabric and garment, and then plan out your design onto the garment. We’ll practice a straight stitch and backstitch, and you’ll get started on your embellishment. Once we have outlined your pattern, we will use your sharp scissors to cut out and expose the interior fabric. Erin will help with problem-solving as you keep working on your wearable masterpiece.
