From the Burn Pile Woodturning --Finding Beauty In Firewood--

Upcycling firewood into one-of-a-kind functional and artistic turned Hi, my name is Mike Cotton.

I live in Cumberland, Rhode Island and have been woodturning since March of 2018. For me woodturning started as a method of making quality customized fishing lures cheaper than purchasing at retail. This quickly took on a life of its own as the passion and excitement for exposing the mystery and hidden beauty of what lies beneath the bark grew exponentially. It’s very humbling to bring forth the s

pirit of the wood and form a piece which allows the tree’s soul to live on forever. All vessels saved ‘from the burn pile’ are handcrafted from log form on a wood lathe. I typically don’t know what the outcome will be prior to starting a piece, the wood will always tell you what it wants to be. NO trees were cut down for woodturning, all logs are from trees which have fallen naturally or taken down by land owners for being infested, diseased or other reasons. They advertise these logs/trees as firewood and if lucky I’ll be the first to contact, cut, seal, load and transport the wood. These logs locally advertised as firewood comprise 99% of the material I use for turning.
