Original works of art are created one at a time in my home based art studio in Colorado. To get into my creative groove, I don my apron and turn on the tunes, usually blues or an audio book. Typically I do a thumbnail sketch to work out the idea, composition, and color story, as well as figuring our support (paper or canvas and what size) before diving in. I work very intuitively with an outline a
s my guide so the piece can evolve organically but within the constrains of the series' rules I have laid out. When I create a series I lay out rules for myself, such as how many colors, size, medium etc. My Dreamscapes series has been on-going for about seven years. My art work is created in: pastel, oil, watercolor, and/or acrylic paints, although I have worked in ceramics, drawing, printing too. Interesting fact, when I paint in pastel or watercolor I don't even use brushes! For my of my Homeostasis series of watercolor paintings, I pour the paint on...one layer at a time. As you can tell, I prefer to work in series in order to really explore and experiment with expressing an idea and an inspiration. All materials used are high quality, archival, and light fast pigments. For example, the pastels I use in my Dreamscapes series are lovely, locally made, and they go onto the paper like softened butter.
