This week's shines on the city of Dallas, GA! Incorporated in 1854, Dallas serves as the county seat of Paulding County and was named for George Mifflin Dallas, Vice President under President James K. Polk. The city grew up around a hilltop crossroads chosen for its springs and central location. It is the site of several Civil War battles during the Atlanta Campaign. Today Dallas is anchored by its historic downtown and the iconic 1892 Paulding County Courthouse, and it's a popular starting point for cyclists riding the Silver Comet Trail toward Atlanta or the Alabama state line.
