☕🌾 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🌾☕

Since it’s Labor Day weekend, I thought it was only fitting to feature a flower that has been working hard for centuries!

Meet sorghum, also known as Broom corn!

🌎 Origin: Native to Africa, sorghum has been cultivated for thousands of years and eventually made its way around the world.

🧹 The fun part: Despite the name, it isn't corn at all. Broom corn was specifically cultivated for its long, stiff seed heads to make—you guessed it—brooms!

💐 In the floral world: We use it for texture, movement and that beautiful, natural, rustic look. It can be used fresh or dried and comes in shades ranging from green and tan to beautiful reddish and burgundy tones.

⏳ Vase life: Around 7–14 days fresh, and dried stems can last for months!

🌿 A Little Reintroduction from Blossoms by Dawn 🌿

For those who are new here, and for those who have been following along for a while, I thought it was time to reintroduce myself and Blossoms by Dawn. 💐

I’m Dawn—wife, mom, and the designer behind this floral business that has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of. What started with a love for flowers has grown into a business filled with creativity, hard work, beautiful relationships, and so many special moments.

I work from my home-based floral studio, and I absolutely love it. It gives me the space to create, while allowing me to continue being present for my family. Behind the scenes, there's a lot that goes into making this business happen—ordering, sourcing, conditioning flowers, designing, preparing, cleaning, planning, and all the little details that often go unseen.

Blossoms by Dawn specializes in custom, made-to-order floral designs. Each arrangement is thoughtfully created for the special person and occasion it's intended for, rather than simply choosing something off a shelf. From everyday flowers to celebrations, weddings, sympathy pieces and everything in between, I love creating something that feels personal and meaningful. 🌸

To every person who has trusted me with their flowers—whether it's celebrating a new beginning, honoring a loved one, or simply sending someone a little beauty—thank you. Your support has allowed me to grow this dream while doing something I truly love.

Fall is fast approaching, and I cannot wait for those cooler temps! 🍂 Until then, let’s take a moment to enjoy our liquid goodness ☕ and learn a little something about Rumex!

Rumex, commonly known as dock, is a unique foliage often used in floral design for its interesting texture, movement, and earthy, natural feel. Depending on the variety, those long stems and seed heads can add a beautiful touch of whimsy to arrangements. 🌿

Meaning: Patience & resilience
Vase life: Approximately 7–14 days
Fun fact: Rumex is part of the buckwheat family and includes 200+ species found throughout the world!

Let’s take our first sip and learn about one of the sweetest little flowers around—chamomile!

You probably know chamomile as a calming cup of tea, but did you know it’s also a beautiful flower used in floral design? 🌼

🌿 Origin: Europe and Western Asia
🌼 Meaning: Patience, peace, calm & comfort
🌼 Varieties: German chamomile and Roman chamomile are two of the most well-known types.
💐 Vase life: Fresh chamomile can last around 7–10 days with proper care.

And here’s a fun one: the name chamomile comes from Greek words meaning “ground apple,” referring to the sweet, apple-like scent of the flowers. 🍎🌼

Fun Fact Friday ☕🌸

For many of us parents, the house is quiet again because the kids are officially back at school. And while I’m enjoying my coffee… I have to admit, it may be a little TOO quiet!

So let’s fill that quiet with a little flower knowledge!

🌸 This week’s flower feature: Bouvardia!

✨ Origin: Mexico, Central America, and parts of the southwestern United States
✨ Meaning: Often associated with enthusiasm, appreciation, and lasting affection
✨ Varieties: There are around 30 species in the Bouvardia genus.
✨ Vase life: About 7–14 days with proper care

Its delicate, star-shaped blooms grow in clusters and make a beautiful filler flower in floral designs. 🌿🌸
