Happy Monday! Here's a little Quad Cities art history for you along the riverfront. 💙

This life-sized bronze sculpture in Davenport, Iowa, titled Watching the Ferry, was created by sculptor Louis Quaintance in 1992. The piece was inspired by a 1940s lithograph by renowned regional artist John Bloom — husband of Isabel Bloom and an important figure in Iowa art history.

John Bloom originally sketched two boys watching the old W.J. Quinlan Ferry cross the Mississippi River at LeClaire Park. Decades later, Quaintance brought that nostalgic riverfront moment to life in bronze.

It’s a beautiful tribute to the people, history, and everyday moments that shaped life along the Mississippi River. ✨ It can be viewed in Lower Lindsay Park along the riverfront bikepath, just east of Mound Street.
