BIRDWATCHING – A Lin Barnhardt ceramic cardinal recently has been spotted in “a stake out” at a Charlotte suburban neighborhood. With cousin Paula’s “green thumb,” you, too, can have an “eye-catching” floral arrangement in your front yard.

CHECK IT OUT! – In 2002, I reconstructed Reynolda House for Piedmont Craftsmen’s collaborative “Strength in Numbers” exhibition. The 34-inch sculpture later was accepted into the national “Feats of Clay” competition in Lincoln, CA. An image of the work appeared in the May 2004 issue of Ceramics Monthly, as well as the August 2024 issue of Our State magazine. It was last displayed in Piedmont Craftsmen’s “60th Anniversary Exhibition.
Forsyth County Central Library, located at 660 W 5th St, is now the “permanent home” of the sculpture. Karen Feeney, NC Collection supervisor, remarked, “I am so thrilled that we have Reynolda House here for everyone to enjoy. It is one of the landmarks of Winston-Salem, and a symbol of a family that has had a major impact on other families in the area for generations.”

EDWARD HOPPER HOUSE, located in Nyack, NY, was the initial architectural reconstruction in my Homage to Hopper series. The sculpture initially was displayed at the Hopper House Art Center in 2007. Happy to announce that my clay reconstruction has been acquired by HOTEL NYACK - a 4 star, 133 room venue, located just 3 minutes away! Thanks to Matt Tobin, General Manager, for giving this “house” a permanent “home” in the hotel’s lobby.

PERMANENT RESIDENCE – Mona and I drove to Davidson today to check my “Eumenan Hall” sculpture into the 5 STAR Davidson Village Inn. The sculpture is prominently displayed in the hotel’s commons area. Thanks, Mariano & Caroline Doble, for making this acquisition possible.

In 2002, Piedmont Craftsmen presented “Strength in Numbers,” an exhibition shown at Green Hill Center (Greensboro), followed by Milton Rhodes Gallery (Winston-Salem). The premise of the show was for a PCI member to partner with another artist to create a collaborative work. The late Ginger Spangler of Lawndale accepted my invitation. We visited “Connemara”, the home of Carl & Lillian Sandburg, to brainstorm an idea. I constructed the house in clay, using an open/closed book concept. The interior space became a stage for Ginger to tell the stories of Carl & Lillian via etched text and collage transfer. My wife, Mona, and I visited the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site this weekend where Sarah Perschall, program manager, accepted the piece into the National Parks Service’s permanent collection.
