Pakistan Independence Day (Yāum-e-Āzādi), observed annually on 14 August, is a national holiday in Pakistan. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign state following the termination of the British Raj in August of 1947. Pakistan came into existence as a result of the Pakistan Movement, which aimed for the creation of an independent Muslim state in the north-western regions of British India via partition. The movement was led by the All-India Muslim League under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event was brought forth by the Indian Independence Act 1947 under which the British Raj gave independence to the Dominion of Pakistan which comprised West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). During that time, In the Islamic calendar, the day of independence coincided with Ramadan 27, the eve of which, being Laylat al-Qadr, is regarded as sacred by Muslims.

The main Independence Day ceremony takes place in Islamabad, where the national flag is hoisted at the Presidential and Parliament buildings. It is followed by the national anthem and live televised speeches by leaders. Usual celebratory events and festivities for the day include flag-raising ceremonies, parades, cultural events, and the playing of patriotic songs. A number of award ceremonies are often held on this day, and Pakistanis hoist the national flag atop their homes or display it prominently on their vehicles and attire.

Happy Independence Day Singapore!!

Every August, Singapore’s skies light up with fireworks to commemorate National Day on 9 August, the day that Singapore was declared an independent and sovereign state in 1965. A fairly young country by global standards, we trace Singapore’s history from its early beginnings as a British colony to a short-lived merger with Malaysia and finally its independence.

Emancipation Day is a public holiday celebrated in Montserrat, and it is observed on the first Monday in August each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary when the abolishment of slavery in Montserrat on August 1, 1834.

Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. Christopher Columbus first passed the island in 1493 during his second voyage. About 100 years after, Irishmen from Saint Kitts started to settle in Montserrat, and in the late 1660s, the British Empire occupied the island.

The early colonists developed an economy based on sugar and cotton on large plantations on the island. Like most other Caribbean islands, they transported African slaves to the island for labor until 1834, when Britain abolished slavery in Montserrat and other territories.

We have many items to highlight your national pride. https://www.worldflagsdirect.com/collections/montserrat

It’s a day of great pride for the Beninese, who mark this holiday with elaborate festivals, military parades, and reenactments of ancient ceremonies. The streets come alive with colorful displays of nationalism and cultural pride. Singers and dancers perform before huge crowds in traditional regalia. Many Beninese give gifts to their neighbors and invite them to sumptuous feasts, as is the custom in this West African nation.
