Introducing your starting lineup for the Turkey Tail Furniture Co. all-star team!

Over the past two weeks, I’ve had the privilege of welcoming three incredible new employees to the team, and they’ve turned what could have been a stressful process of building out our shop into a genuinely exciting experience.

From diving headfirst into projects that have nothing to do with furniture making (check out the beautiful new showroom entryway at our feet!) to helping solve all sorts of equipment-moving puzzles, these guys have already shown me that we have the right team to make furniture at the highest level—and that we just might have a bit of fun in the process.

I can’t wait to see each of these talented craftsmen bring their unique skills, perspectives, and creativity to our work. I feel incredibly lucky to have them on board.

We’re now about a week away from making furniture in the new shop, with the showroom hopefully opening to the public shortly thereafter. I’m beyond excited to welcome you all in, introduce you to the team, and show you what we’ve been building.

P.S- I gave everyone their shirts on Monday, and we all decided without any coordination to wear them on Wednesday. Great minds...

Compensation based on experience, and includes paid holidays, PTO, and bonuses (part time hours have adjusted benefits).

If you or someone you know might be a fit for the role, please email [email protected] with work experience, resume, and reason for applying.

I've been promising my dad a new coffee table for quite some time. This past fall, we finally made it happen- heading down to the local sawyer on Marthas Vineyard to pick out two bookmatched slabs of Siberian Elm. We didn't have a design in mind at the time, and instead let the shape of the wood dictate the final outcome. I think it came out pretty darn cool, and I think he did too (based on the quality and duration of the hug I received upon delivery).

Pro tip: it’s usually a good sign when as you’re prepping a table for delivery, your wife asks if you can build the same one for your own house.
Also Pro tip: not all commissions are billable.

Designed in close collaboration with the client who is a professional architect, the real highlight of this piece is the two curved pedestals. If you follow their curvature at the floor, you will notice that they actually complete a perfect circle together. Each pedestal was made using the barrel making technique of coopering four square boards together, then carving the inside and outside faces to a smooth semi circle. Done primarily with handplanes and a card scraper, because…I’m a glutton for punishment AND great final results.

Lastly, there’s the top. I’ve always loved a boat shape—it gives you the practicality of a rectangle with some of the intimacy of a round table. I lucked out at , digging deep into a pile of Cherry from the “back-back” to handpick four clear, extra-wide boards. Each one has its own mix of straight grain and swirling figure, and together they really come to life.

Safe to say…this design might be making another appearance soon.
