I realize that not everyone views their dog or pet as I do. But for 11 years you were our son. You brought us a joy that you cannot put into words. For 11 years you were my wingman, my best friend, doing nearly everything together. You touched the lives of everyone you encountered. You were a source of security and comfort for Evie for her first two years. Losing you was one of the worst days of my life. I think of you everyday. When I go to bed you are not tucked in beside me and when I wake you are no longer there. There is an emptiness now that can never be filled. The last thing I could do for you was make, by hand, your final resting place. I love and miss you everyday.

Beyond happy with the way these driveway gates came out. The style is based out of an English Agricultural fence gate and done using clear vertical grain Douglas Fir. All of the rails are set in place with full through tenon joints combined with the double V braces and double strap hinges these are built to last! Had a great time making them and hope to see even more opportunities like this.

As I mentioned in a previous post this is one of the few things to come out of my shop that I am keeping for myself. With good reason though. These two pieces of history are family heirlooms. On top is the Springfield 1844 cap and ball musket, and for as long as I can remember and as long as my mother can remember it hung in my grandfathers den. I’ve wanted it all my life and after a very long time I have this piece of history. I hope to gather more history on this in hopes to complete this story further.

The piece on the bottom comes from my father’s side of the family. It is what’s known as a Belgian Travelers/Dueling pistol. Based on its markings in was manufactured sometime in the 1850’s in Liege, Belgium. It belonged to my great great grandfather who immigrated from Germany at around 15yrs old after being sponsor by a family. At the age of 17 his brother was drafted into service during the Civil War. My great great grandfather having no wife or family at the time was able to volunteer in his place. And so he served, 4 years fighting for his new found home and discharged as a Sgt.

Being able to bring these two pieces of, not only history, but two sides of my families history together has been an honor to say the least. I am grateful to my family for entrusting these to me.
