This is my other piece, “Hold.” which represents self-control (and gentleness). It’s embroidery inside a plastic box. The statement says:

“My son spent the first couple months of his life in a plastic isolette. This container that God used to help sustain his life is aptly named. So close and yet so far away from me and my touch. Sometimes, self-control looks like doing what is best for others even when it is hardest for you. In this piece, you are told to touch but frustrated by the inability to do so.”

I’m honored and honestly a little nervous to have some really vulnerable and personal fibers work in a new art show at our church about the fruits of the spirit! (Also very honored to be sharing a wall with .fashi_art)

This piece is called “Bated Breath” and represents patience. The statement included says:

“After being born premature, my son spent 5 months in the NICU. For 144 days, I lived moment by moment with no idea of what the next breath would bring. Joy or pain? Gain or loss? Life or death? I was powerless to help, so I had to sit and wait. And wait. Trusting that the one who knitted him together in my womb would sustain us both and keep breathing life into his tiny lungs. Every inch of this crochet work represents 1 day in the NICU, and the colors correspond to the level of oxygen support he needed, darker being higher and lighter being lower.“
