So sad: ten years ago we had the pleasure of her company at The Huntsman Ranch. She was as dear and sweet as she appeared. At one point, in serving the Carters, I had difficulty with the ice maker in the refrigerator. She got up and helped me acknowledging she had the same refrig. at home in Georgia, and the same problem. So sorry, Rosalynn. RIP.

She is survived by her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, who is 99 years old.

Contemporary Design is Monastic. See below. It has a dreary "monastery" look, faceless, even self-effacing, lacking in reference, devoid of historic or geographic relationship. My clients are quickly moving away from this genre, following the lead of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West who sold their monastic high-designed condo and bought a good old fashioned ranch outside Cody, Wyoming outfitted with Pendleton fabrics and log chairs.

Americans are ready for a new relaxed human-centered design language that bridges minimalism with visual comfort. I haven't seen it yet. Certainly not in the images proposed by magazines and dealers. Have you found the bridge?
