Bawarchi Biryani - Centennial, CO 🇮🇳
So on Sundays, after church, my cousin and her husband generally join my brother Peter and I for brunch. We take turns picking a different restaurant out each week. There are a few favorites we revisit but Denver has such a plethora of options that it makes it rather easy to just try new spots as well.
Pete’s favorite local Indian spot is Bawarchi Biryani. They had a bad fire last year and decided to totally remodel the place. In the interim they stayed open by offering carry out at least whilst working out of 2 food trucks as they remodeled.
They recently reopened for full service and so today was our 1st visit since then. I have to say - the decor is a step up from their previous look. They now have golden plated menus, golden silverware, new water carafes, and the entire decor is all different and much nicer.
They also have a small bakery and sell homemade desserts and bread items - this is still in development but they had a small selection of each.
Here is what we ordered:
Daniel - chicken tikka masala.
This is your standard Indian dish which is credited as being invented in Glasgow, Scotland in the early 1970’s. I decided to get chicken as my protein today but I often order this dish with shrimp or lamb.
Peter - boneless chicken biryani
This is a classic dish which I believe has Persian roots. It is very rice heavy and served with several dipping sauces, one yogurt based and the other peanut curry based.
My cousin’s husband - Chicken Mughlai which is
chicken cooked in rich cashew creamy sauce with coriander and egg.
I also orderer some garlic Naan to go with our meals. I prefer Naan to basmati or white rice, although I generally have a little of each.
Pete and I had lots of leftovers. I find it is often just as good or better the next day. I reheat my main dish in a skillet and the Naan in the toaster oven to crisp up.
