Happy Holidays! May the new year bring you delighful scents and sights and flavors 😊 We are almost 5 years old and I’m so grateful we made it this far, next year we will be sailing into a lesser known territory and change things up! - Merve

🎶: Last Friday as I was setting up the tent I randomly started singing this song from a telenovela I grew up with - now you’re stuck with it too! 😅

Save the dates! Our monthly Perfume Literacy workshops (as well as Focus workshops) are starting again in September. Let's gather around the table, smell and learn 🙋🏻‍♀️

We're all capable of training our noses to pinpoint a smell or identify notes in a perfume. Often times we don't know which words we can use to describe what we smell or maybe we don't understand when someone describes a scent as "animalic" or "green" or "resinous". With a little guidance and hands-on (or nose-on?) experience we can all improve the way we understand and talk about fragrances.

These workshops are great for fragrance enthusiasts, makers of scented goods, retailers of scented goods, marketing professionals, media professionals and anyone remotely interested in flavors and fragrances.

Do you feel confident in your ability to identify notes in a perfume? Is reading the description of a perfume confusing for you? Our Perfume Literacy workshop might as well be just what you need.

In this workshop you will learn about:

- a brief history of perfumes and important developments that led us to modern perfumery,
- the most commonly used natural ingredients in perfumery,
- the most commonly used synthetic ingredients in perfumery,
- top, middle and base notes and how to identify them,
- specific olfactory vocabulary used to describe scents,
- fragrance families and subfamilies with real examples and how to distinguish them,
- milestone perfumes that changed the course of perfumery,
- standard methods used to evaluate a perfume's performance,
- reformulations and why perfumes go through it.

This class is taught by Merve Colpan, a graduate of the French perfumery school ISIPCA (Institut supérieur international du parfum, de la cosmétique et de l'aromatique alimentaire) originally founded by Jean-Jacques Guerlain in 1970. After obtaining her Master’s degree in European Fragrance and Cosmetics from ISIPCA she worked alongside skilled perfumers in the industry and is now happy to share her knowledge and experience with curious minds.

Participants will take home a smell & study kit consisting of 24 key perfume ingredients and a perfume field guide that will allow them to improve their olfactory skills at their own pace after the workshop.

This comprehensive class is equally suitable for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts.

We also offer monthly Focus workshops that concentrate around a specific family of ingredients and perfumes.
