April 11th–17th is Black Maternal Health Week. This year’s theme is “Rooted in Justice and Joy.” Led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, this campaign drives awareness, policy change, and activism to improve maternal health outcomes and combat disparities in care.
What does this have to do with flowers?
I’m often asked how I got into floral design—but I don’t always share the full why, or what keeps me going.
When flowers found me, I was battling deep depression 🫥. After a certain point, they stop calling it postpartum… but that didn’t change what I was experiencing. Even getting my doctor to acknowledge that I was dealing with postpartum depression was a struggle—one I should have never had to face 😪.
Flowers became more than something beautiful. They became a way to heal, to process, and to reconnect with myself.
The design shown below was created to honor the power of a mother’s support system—the people who hold her up when she’s carrying so much.
