Wesley Hodges Fly Fishing Lodge ᪥

We worked with our neighbor and respected fly-fishing guide Wesley Hodges to create a home and lodge that could serve his business, his guests, and his family all at once.

Located in Eagle Rock, Virginia, the home is layered with timeworn materials, traditional furnishings, and collected pieces. The interiors were designed to feel equally at home around the dinner table, gathered by the fire, or simply relaxing after a day on the river.

Colorado Hempcrete House ᪥

Our clients were building a hempcrete home in Salida, Colorado—an entirely new material for us and an incredibly rewarding project to take on. This bedroom is from the recently completed home!

Warm plaster, aged wood, collected furnishings, thoughtful lighting and views of the landscape beyond.

While we’re rooted in Appalachia, we create thoughtful interiors for clients near and far.

Rooted in its landscape, shaped around the people who call it home.

For this project, the surrounding landscape became an essential part of the design from the very beginning — informing the way the spaces were oriented, the materials we chose, and the quiet, collected feeling we wanted throughout.

Working closely with our clients, we designed these spaces to feel connected to both the land and the way they live. From the orientation of the floor plan to the placement of each window, the home was carefully designed to reveal the mountain views from within.

A first glimpse, with much more to come. ᪥

Slow mornings, fresh flowers from the garden, and meals around the table.

Designing a home is ultimately about creating a place for these moments—the backdrop of your life. 🤎

Why we render before we build ᪥

A rendering is more than a glimpse of what a space will look like. It’s a way to test the design before the decisions become permanent.

Before materials are ordered or anything is installed, we’re able to see the space in three dimensions and consider how the cabinetry, millwork, materials, lighting, fixtures, furnishings, and proportions work together.

And these aren’t AI-generated models. Each rendering is built by hand, using real measurements and information gathered in collaboration with the contractor and trades. It allows us to work through the design in a way that is specific to the home, down to the details that matter.

It gives our clients the opportunity to truly understand the design before it comes to life, while allowing us to catch potential issues and make adjustments early in the process.

Fewer surprises, fewer changes during construction, less wasted material, time, and money.

For us, renderings are simply part of how we work: decisions get tested before they’re final.

Headwater Holler ᪥ Kitchen Finishes

The smallest details can have a big impact on how a space feels.

For the kitchen at Headwater Holler, we chose unlacquered brass hardware throughout, allowing the finish to naturally patina and darken with time. Its warmth echoes the rich tones of the existing wood and feels especially natural in the setting of a mountain cabin.

We also wanted to mix in pieces with a little more character and softness. From the curved cup pulls and cabinet latches to the sandcast rounded k***s and bridge-style faucet, each element adds to a collection that feels gathered rather than overly matched. The goal was to choose hardware that would feel at home here today, while becoming even more beautiful as it ages.

Every detail was chosen to feel collected, timeless, and a little undone…just as a cabin should. 🤎

Headwater Holler ᪥ Before + After

Sometimes the best design decision is knowing what not to change.

When we first saw this cabin, there was already so much character in the existing woodwork. Rather than trying to lighten it, cover it, or make it feel more contemporary, we saw an opportunity to design with it. So we let the warmth of the timber become the foundation for the space.

We carried that warmth throughout with aged brass finishes, natural stone, and layered textiles, choosing materials that complement what was already there rather than compete with it. The brass, in particular, echoes the rich tones of the wood and feels especially at home in a cabin setting.

The transformation wasn't about changing everything. It was about recognizing the potential in what was already there and knowing how to bring it forward.

Headwater Holler ᪥ Sharing a few details from a cabin project we recently completed along the Upper James River, nestled in the Appalachian mountains.

The landscape was our starting point for every decision, bringing in natural materials throughout. We incorporated linen drapery, live-edge wood, and organic stone to create a home that feels warm, grounded, and at home in its setting.

A place where the landscape isn’t simply the view, but part of the design.

We’re excited to share more of this transformation soon, including the before and after!
