Hello and Welcome to all of you who have recently discovered Something Fine.
We’re so happy you’ve found us! Since we have quite a few new folks stopping here and we’re receiving a lot of inquiries about our artwork, I’ve decided to post answers to several commonly asked questions and clarify some of the details about what it is we actually do!
We began making Interior Wood Barn Quilts about three years ago and have made nearly 550 of them.
We do not have a website. We prefer to communicate directly with you.
Three sizes and several patterns are available.
THEY ARE FOR INTERIOR USE ONLY.
24” size - We offer three basic patterns. Please refer to the attached photos.
Also notice they are multidimensional - not sure anyone else makes them the way we do.
(We do offer a couple of other patterns, including a Patriotic design. Message for details.)
⭐️ Cedar Star - 92 individually cut pieces of wood. Multiple color combinations.
⭐️ White Star - 76 individually cut pieces of wood. Multiple color combinations.
⭐️ Variegated Star - 80 individually cut pieces of wood. Multiple color combinations.
Each of these Barn Quilts is truly custom.
We source wood from many places, and no two boards are exactly the same. Some have many knots, while others are smoother. Some boards are lighter, others may have a heavier grain running through. And so on…
Each piece of wood is individually cut, hand sanded, hand painted with two coats, glued to a prepared plywood backing, trimmed and then framed.
The process for each quilt typically takes three days. This allows time for the glue to set up firmly and for the paint to dry (the wood tends to absorb the paint and expand a bit, then it settles back down).
NO, we cannot precut a bunch of pieces to prepare for multiple quilts. If you look at the detail, the pieces all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. This is a team effort!
36” size - Nine square feet, making a BIG statement.
Available in the same patterns, colors and details as the 24” size.
12” size - Two patterns - the X and the Weave.
This size is made using pieces of rough sawn cedar and pine that are painted in multiple color combinations, glued on a painted plywood background and then framed. For these quilts, pieces of wood can be cut ahead of time as they are not fitted together in the same manner as the larger quilts.
