This is a hill I’ll happily die on...

Stop using the dang big light!!!

Your home has a clock, and your lighting should respect it. Bright natural light during the day helps us feel alert, while warmer, dimmer light in the evening helps us slow down.

Lighting can make or break how a home looks, but it can also shape how the home makes you feel. That’s why we consider natural light, color temperature, separate lighting layers, and dimmers long before choosing fixtures.

I wrote a new blog post sharing four ways to improve your home’s lighting, including why we typically specify 2700K or 3000K and why the big light should not be doing all the work.

One of my favorite parts of designing a home is deciding what doesn’t need to be seen.

Not because we’re trying to hide life, but because the things you choose to display become so much more meaningful when they have room to breathe.

I think that’s one of the simplest ways to create a home that feels calm, collected, and deeply personal. It’s not about having less. It’s about being intentional with what you see every day.
