🍂 TIME TO BRING YOUR PLANT BABIES INSIDE! 🌿

Cooler nights are coming! Here’s your quick guide to making the move indoors!

🌡️ 1. Most houseplants should come inside when nighttime temps start to drop below 50 degrees for several nights in a row. Sensitive plants may need to come in sooner. Always protect them from frost!

🔍 2. Inspect for obvious pests. Check leaves, stems, undersides of leaves, and soil for any unwanted insects or hitchhikers. Manually remove any you find.

🚿 3. Clean them up. Use a garden hose with a strong nozzle setting that will remove unwanted pests without destroying your plant from it's water pressure. Rinse top & bottom of leaves and stems.

🪴 3A... I place my pots (WITH drainage holes) in a plastic tote and fill it with water and a drop or two of mild dish soap. Fill with enough water so your pot is fully submerged (you'll loose some top soil but you can replace it with fresh stuff later). Set timer for 30 minutes to basically drown any pests living inside the soil of your pots.

Pull out water logged pots and set aside to drain for awhile before bringing inside. Add fresh top soil as needed.

🕷 4. If you suspect any insects or pests may still be present or just as a preventative measure spray down your plants with a pest spray.

🪴 5. Quarantine if possible. Keep outdoor plants separate from your indoor jungle for 1-2 weeks if possible and watch for pests. We don't want to expose the indoor ones to anything that may have hitched a ride indoors.

☀️ 6. Find the right spot. Give them bright light and keep them away from cold drafts and heating vents. Expect some adjustment as they transition indoors. Yellow leaves or small amounts of leaf drop may occur - that's normal as they acclimate.

💧 7. Adjust watering. Indoor plants usually use less water as light and growth decrease. Check soil moisture before watering!

As always, we're here to help! Reach out with any questions!

Have you ever repotted a plant only to have it die on you soon after? ☠😭

We've got a solution for that problem = The Potting Bar! 🎉🪴

Repotting can be a little tricky; knowing what soil amendments are desired by certain plants, finding the right size pot, working through the root ball and getting things all put back together without causing harm. It often makes people nervous just thinking about it.

Years ago I too felt anxious about the idea, the struggle was real! That's why I knew this feature had to be a part of our shop. After years of working with plants, educating myself on the best methods as trained by other Horticulture professionals and repotting thousands, I knew helping others in this category was a must.

➡️ So know this, above all else, we got you! Bring in your overgrown out of control friends, your sad, dried up dying friends, your lopsided yellow leaf friends, falling over, need support friends and we'll get them ALL taken care of.

This is a judgement free zone! Our SoCal crew has seen some things over the years but we can relate, and we're here to help by providing love, support and our repotting skills! 🫶

Stop in any time, no appointment necessary and allow us to bring your plants back to optimal health. Plus we have FUN accessories to customize with... 😉😁

🐦🌼 We're thrilled to welcome Fox & Thistle to our shop! 🦉🐝

These incredible handmade watercolor and ink illustration greeting cards are the works of local artist Dani Gorin. I met Dani years ago as vendors at The Land of Goshen Farmers Market and was wildly impressed with her creations. Her love of nature shines through with every botanical and wildlife inspired piece of art.

We love her mission to "invoke a sense of curiosity about the plants and wildlife that call this region home. The studio is a firm believer that curiosity leads to caring--and that caring leads to action. If you know what grows in your area--if you understand the beauty and the benefits, what it hosts and what it contributes, maybe you'll want to protect it. And maybe you'll even want to take that next step and plant your own seed. To watch it grow." 🌱

✨ We invite you to discover her collection and share it with the nature lovers in your life! And we appreciate your support of this local woman owned small business. You make a difference in our lives.

🌿 PLANT FUN FACT! Have you ever seen a pothos with GILLS?! 👀

A customer brought her pothos cuttings into the shop with a very interesting question: “What are these weird little gills on the leaves?”

This was a new one for me so here's what I learned and now you'll know too! Those raised ridges on the underside of the leaves are actually a unique characteristic of ‘Champs-Élysées’ Pothos, a close relative of the Neon Pothos. They’re sometimes called leaf crests or “gills.”

🧐 So what do they do?
Surprisingly… not much! They’re primarily a genetic feature that affects how the leaf develops but are purely ornamental. They aren’t actual gills and aren’t needed for the plant to breathe, grow or climb.

Basically, this pothos just decided to get a little fancy underneath. Plants are FULL of these little surprises, and we love helping you figure them out!
