Mitchell’s Bookshelf: A Little Something for Book Lovers

I've always believed that a personal library doesn't have to begin with shelves full of books. Sometimes it starts with just one or two. You can build slowly and thoughtfully, or simply follow your curiosity and see where it takes you.

Through Mitchell’s Bookshelf, I'm helping readers discover affordable books in literature, history, art, cooking, travel, design, and more.

Tell me what interests you and what you'd like to spend. I'll put together a suggested collection that you can review, change, or build upon. Books are priced using comparable market listings, with discounts available on selected collections.

Whether you're starting a library or adding to one you've loved for years, I'd enjoy helping you find your next good book.

**Mitchell’s Bookshelf — Interesting books. Affordable prices. New homes.**

Message me if you'd like to explore a collection. Shipping is available at the buyer's expense.

Every once in a while I find something that doesn't need a complicated explanation.

This was one of those times.

Pink. A deer. A little gold. Completely unnecessary—and somehow absolutely necessary.

There's always room at Mitchell's Modern for something that simply makes me smile.

This one is available, at least for now.

I have a soft spot for furniture with a little personality.

These green chairs have it—the color, the shape and just enough vintage character to make them interesting without taking over the room.

That's one of the things I enjoy about finding pieces for Mitchell's Modern. Sometimes one chair, lamp or table is all it takes to make a room feel less ordinary.

These are among the pieces recently available at Mitchell's Modern.

Sometimes it's the little things that get me.

A great mug. An unusual piece of glass. A bowl with just the right color. Something small that gives a shelf or table a little more personality.

These 1979 Alice butterfly mugs did it for me.

Not everything interesting has to be a statement piece. Sometimes it just has to make you s

One thing I've learned: a room doesn't have to be completely vintage for one older piece to work.

Sometimes it's the shape, texture or warmth that makes it interesting. I like pieces that can live comfortably with things you already own without making the whole room feel like a movie set.

This table caught my eye for exactly that reason.

A little vintage can go a long way.

One thing I appreciate about vintage furniture is how often somebody thought about what it needed to do.

Open this one up, and suddenly there's room for bottles, glasses and entertaining. Close it again, and it becomes a handsome piece of furniture.

That's my kind of design—good-looking without forgetting to be useful.

Mitchell approved.

I have always liked the idea of the home bar.

For a while, bars, carts and cocktail accessories were almost part of the furniture. They reflected a time when entertaining at home was an occasion—and good design didn't have to sit around looking pretty. It had a job to do.

That's probably why pieces like this still catch my eye. Good-looking, useful and surprisingly easy to work into a home today.

This one recently found its way to Mitchell's Modern. Apparently, I'm getting the bar ready.

Every so often I stop and look around Mitchell's Modern and think, this is really coming together.

Furniture, glass, art, lamps, kitchenware—and usually something I didn't expect to find.

I'm still having fun figuring out what belongs here and what might catch somebody else's eye.

Not bad for this chapter of the adventure. 😊
