Look who got twin bloom sunflowers this week! 🌻🌻

Absolutely adorable. It was such a great kick off weekend to the summer and we love love love all the kiddos stopping in. We always want this to be that place that you can escape and have a moment, but also feel super comfortable bringing in the crew 😘.

School may be out for the summer but is always in session! Be sure to stop in and say hi and support all of your local shops! 💛🌻

The local flowers are so so good this week! Every week when I start getting availability lists from all the farms I have a hard time saying no. Even if I have no idea how all the flowers will be used. 😬💛

We have four events this weekend, but I always buy a good amount of surplus. And then I cross my dirty florist fingers and hope more orders will come in.

It’s like I look right and there are all the farmers. And then I look left and there are all of you and I’m like….

Are we going to do this???

And because I believe in both of you I order bucketfuls of flowers and somehow we make it through another week.

Yesterday a lady came into the shop to buy posies for an 8th grade dance. I thought she was buying them for a daughter and friends - turns out she has triplets!

Not even ten minutes went by and is processing sunflowers, sorting them for a project.

“Look at this one!” she says as she brings it to me. “Triplets!”

“Are you kidding! Look at that. A lady with triplets was JUST checking out 10 minutes ago! I wish I could have given this to her! “

And now I want to find a triplet mama! And twin mamas too because in our hunt through our sunnies we found TWO triplet sunnies and TWO twin sunnies

I’d love to give each of them as a little gift for any mamas of multiples that want to comment and come in today and claim them!

A performance bouquet was ordered a couple weeks ago with the following note:

“She has been talking about these flowers since she found out she is having a recital so I just want to make them extra special!” ✨

You came to the right place, extra special order.

When she picked up and saw that we got in all the favorite colors and wrapped it up all cute and ready to shine she smiled from ear to ear.

“You nailed it! She’s been talking about her recital flowers for months! She remembered them from last time and is so excited. She’s going to LOVE them!”

… Me thinking her dancer may have forgot that she has to dance first… 😂

I told her I put a star by her order on my print out to remember to make them extra special, and I did, but the truth is that every single performance bouquet is super special.

Because honestly, a bride may look forward to her wedding flowers with as much anticipation as a 7 year old tap dancer.

Flowers are the punctuation mark for so many occasions and we are happy to be a part of the biggest memories of the littlest performances.

I have been thinking about those three kids that came in last Friday.

When they told me they were buying flowers because someone had passed I thought about how young they were and how they probably didn’t have much money. I thought that maybe I should just give them flowers for free.

But I didn’t.

And then when he took out his cash to pay and said keep the change, I thought No No, and I asked if he was sure and he said yes, and thanked me I didn’t question anything further.

There are times and circumstances in which I’ve donated flowers, but I’m sensitive to the young kids coming in to buy.

They work so hard for their money. They are so proud of their money. They are gaining their footing at becoming independent. And figuring out who they want to be in this world.

I had a feeling that the kid would have given any amount that day to take away the pain for those he was giving to. To realize the three of them would drop everything and think “what can we do” and get in a car to go buy flowers and gifts for a grieving family.

There is no way I’m going to rob him of that joy.

Because if I was to say “no charge” that would have changed something. It would have flipped the script to the florist that gave flowers when he wanted to own that gift. When he wanted to sacrifice something of himself for others.

And not allowing him to tip would have done the same. Robbed him from feeling that generosity and gratitude.

My son Oliver graduated this year and with a grad comes all the grad parties. There have been so many that I’ve lost track.

I’ve told my boys to not go to a party empty handed. I have a stash of cash to slip into cards.

I was at the shop when Oliver hopped over to a party recently. I said “I didn’t know you were going! I would have given you money!”.

He said “I took him $10 in cash that I had”.

“$10?” I said. “I would have at least given you a $20!”

“Mom.” he said. “$10 from your bro is better than $20 from your bro’s mom”

And so it is.

I respected that.

Same concept. Let them give. Let them figure out a way to use their own resources to share what they have with others. From their very own hearts. 💛

Three teenage kids came into the shop today and went straight for the flowers. They were discussing something together huddled by the cooler and looking at options.

I asked if they needed help.

“We need flowers. Are all these available?”

I tell them yes, the bunches on the right are $35, the ones on the left are $55. I asked them if it was a special occasion.

“Someone passed. We want to take the family flowers. We can take any of these now?”

There was definitely a sense of urgency.

“Yes, you can have any of those. They are all available.”

They chose two bunches. They briefly discussed payment and the one friend stepped up and said he’s got it, and handed me cash for two bouquets.

“Keep the change” he said, “you came in clutch with these flowers.”

So sweet.

They were all so sweet. So sincere and earnest. It really touched me.

Last week we had a lot of grad bouquet pick ups but one in particular stood out.

She probably was hardly out of high school herself and came in and gave us a name for an order. We found the custom color grad bouquet and handed it to her. I figured she was picking up for her mom.

Her eyes immediately filled with tears.

“It’s so beautiful. I love it so much. It’s for my sister. She’s going to love it.”

“Wait.” I say. “Did you order this for your sister?”

“Yes. My little sister is graduating from high school. I’ve been crying all day.”

Her little sister. Just the sweetest.

And now I’m crying along with her.

First smell is free, second one is 50¢ 😉

Don’t forget to stop by and smell the (local) roses this weekend! Really. Just come by and take a minute. It’s worth it, I promise.

So many people take in a deep breath and say “Wow, I haven’t smelled that smell for a really long time”.

So nostalgic. They remind me of my grandfather’s beautiful rose garden in California. And imported roses just hardly have any smell … so this is a real treat!

Enjoy them in the shop or take one home by the stem! Thank you Mountain Rose Acres Farm! 💛
