Our debut item is an incredible antique wood geomancer's feng shui compass, also known as a luopan. This item was hand-carved from fruitwood and has hand painted ink inscriptions.

This compass was created in the late 19th century and, like a conventional compass, is a direction finder. However, a luopan differs from a compass in several important ways. The most obvious difference is the feng shui formulas embedded in up to 40 concentric rings on the surface. This ringed surface is a wooden plate known as the heaven dial. The circular metal or wooden plate typically sits on a wooden base known as the earth plate. The heaven dial rotates freely on the earth plate. These luopans were used by Feng Shui practitioners to determine the precise location an item or structure should be placed.
