T-Shirt Treasures can take those t-shirts and make them into a light-weight blanket so you can wrap yourself in all those amazing memories. Or, a pillow that you can add to your bed or couch. So, gather them all up, put them in the box or bags (Don’t cut them up!) and send me a message. We can talk about what size blanket you might have, the pattern you want, and the smaller details like the edge
color and any buttons you might want. All the blankets use both front and back of your t-shirt, have hand stitched seams and bias tape to hold it all together. I make each square as large as possible to preserve the part about the t-shirt that makes it special. FAQ:
Why are they called ‘blankets’ and not ‘quilts’? Since I do not do any traditional quilting on them, and they have no batting (the stuffing that typically goes in the inside of a quilt), they are blankets. They are more light weight than a traditional quilt. How many t-shirts do you need to make a blanket? Gather as many as you can, as many as you want in your blanket. Since I use the fronts and backs of the t-shirts, I can make just about any size. I also have plain t-shirt squares if I need to fill in anywhere. How are the blankets planned out? Once you have all your t-shirts gathered, we can chat about how you want the blanket laid out (pattern or certain order of shirts), then we discuss the bias tape edge color, the types and amounts of buttons you want (or none at all if you want). I take photos of how it’s going to be sewn for my own reference and then I get started. What if I can only find a few shirts? I can make pillows too! Or, I can make a Twin size blanket, filling in with extra color squares. How long does it take to make a blanket? I’ll need a few weeks, as the sewing is all by hand. The inside of each t-shirt square has interfacing ironed on to it, so it easier to work with, and makes each square a little stronger. Of course, this all makes the blanket very durable. Pillows typically take about a day to make. How do I care for my blanket? Since these are t-shirts you’ve already worn and washed, the blanket is washable too! In fact, when I complete a blanket, I wash it in HOT water and dry it on HIGH heat. (I use soap for sensitive skin, with no dyes and no perfumes, just in case!)
What do you charge for your work? A Pillow is $25, a Twin size is $150, a Queen size is $250, and a King size is $350. When do I pay you? I ask for half up front, so I can buy needed materials (thread, interfacing, bias tape, buttons), and the other half upon completion. How do I pay you? I have Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle. How do I get started? Send me a message, letting me know you’d like a blanket or pillow and then start looking for those t-shirts!
