✨ BEHIND THE MAKEOVER: WHERE VINTAGE MEETS A LITTLE AI MAGIC ✨
One of my favorite parts of refurbishing vintage and secondhand furniture is imagining what a piece could become. Sometimes I see the finished vision long before I ever begin the work. The trick is figuring out how to bring that vision to life!
Take these carved chairs, for example. Beautiful details, gorgeous lines, but I knew I wanted to give them an entirely different personality.
I found this incredible brindle cowhide and started thinking about how I could use the natural variations in color to create a two-tone look, with the darker hide on top and the lighter portion on the seat. Then came the next big question…
What should I do with the wood? 🪑
Keep the original finish? Go bold with black? Or choose a rich, dark chocolate brown?
This is where my creative process gets a little interesting. I use AI as a design partner to help me visualize ideas before committing to them in real life.
Here’s how we work together:
🎨 I bring the vision. I choose the piece, source the materials, study the details, and decide what I want to achieve.
📸 I share my inspiration. I upload photos of the actual furniture, the fabric or cowhide I’ve found, and the look I’m trying to create.
💡 We explore the possibilities. I explain my ideas, work through the details, and use AI to visualize different finishes, colors, and design combinations.
🛠️ Then the real work begins. I make the final decisions, get my hands dirty, and turn the vision into something real.
The best part? I can compare possibilities before investing time and money in a finish I might not love. And sometimes, seeing an idea come to life on screen sparks an entirely NEW idea I hadn’t considered!
AI doesn’t replace the eye for design, the thrill of finding a special piece, or the satisfaction of restoring something with character. It simply gives creativity another way to work.
I’m a firm believer that old things deserve a second look, a little imagination, and sometimes a completely unexpected new life.
Vintage furniture has a story. I just like helping it write its next chapter. 🤎
What would YOU choose for these chairs: BLACK TRIM 🖤 or DARK CHOCOLATE BROWN 🤎?
Tell me in the comments! I’m curious to see which direction you’d go.
As always post the finished chairs once it’s done❤️ I have 2 matching chairs in this creation
