A LOT of sanding left but these two are going to be stunners. Top is black walnut and bottom is cherry. Both were milled from union or crotch wood in their respective trees.

No pipes ready quite yet, but I couldn’t help giving a little teaser view of two that are close. Filming/editing and making are slow at the moment as we are getting ready for a baby boy very soon. I hope everyone is keeping well, and I can’t wait to share more details as I work to get this tutorial finished and more pipes available for your viewing pleasure!

New Pipes!!!
All at various stages of completion but nearing the finish line.
Recording is going well, and I am at roughly 80% in the filming stage of my new and improved tutorial. It will be 10 short videos, aimed at breaking up the build into highly focused, bite-sized steps that will make it even easier for anyone to make one of these.
I love making churchwardens, and I have no intention of stopping. But I also want everyone to be able to make their own, without any prior experience. All this to say, editing will start in April, and I hope to launch this new tutorial by June. I should also have more pipes available within the coming month or two for anyone waiting on those. Thank you to everyone for your patience, as this is still a weekend gig for me. I hope you’re all enjoying your Sunday!

I know I just shared one of her videos, but, as a Tolkien fan and lover of good music, you really should give her a listen!

If you’re enjoying a pipe and want to listen to an awesome piece of Tolkien’s work done justice by an exceptionally skilled artist, give Lady Moon a listen. All of her work is outstanding, and you should go check out her page!

My first video to cross 1 Million views…
Thank you to everyone who watched it and has followed my progress, commented, messaged me, acquired one of my pipes, or supported me along the way. I appreciate you all very very much, and I look forward to seeing where the further pursuit of my passion for these pipes takes me. I have many ideas, and I’m working hard, every day, to put them in action.

Today’s transformation…

Seeing a beautiful pipe (or any relevant form) before tools are ever set to the wood is one of the best tools you can develop. They look rough now, but that is temporary.

How do I get the draft hole and bowl hole to line up?
It isn’t magic, and it is way simpler than you might think.
My current method uses magnets, and it is very consistent. If you want to learn more, while waiting on the full video course, you can see further details on my process at the link in the comments!

——- Not Available

My most recent finished pipe. All from one piece of Sugar Maple with some gorgeous figure. The color transitions from a dark brown on the bowl to the natural wood tone at the bit where some ambrosia staining and a superficial beetle hole were incorporated. I really enjoyed the finish work on this one!

I get comments and questions all the time regarding the difficulty of cleaning a churchwarden, especially my single piece churchwarden pipes. I also hear a lot of ideas about them clogging completely. If the pipe is well made, and you regularly maintenance it, it should not clog. I think there are a lot of reasons people hold opinions or have concerns about it being difficult to clean them, and I hope to address them each in the future. For now though, to put it as plainly as possible, it isn’t difficult at all. I have various methods of cleaning and different tools as well, but here is a quick clip of passing a standard (long) pipe cleaner through one of my pipes. This pipe has seen hundreds of smoke sessions, and has been cleaned after each. This 12” pipe cleaner can be purchased at most places that sell pipe to***co. Though I typically only push the pipe cleaner through the stem and into the bowl, retracting it through the stem, I can also pass them all the way through the pipe if desired.

This video is part of a larger video I am currently filming, and this portion is showing examples of more than just my pipes. The ones in this video that I have made are the cherry pipe that I’m cleaning and the hard maple with visible curl or figure.
