This is my favorite way to paint drawers. Leaving them in the dresser but open just slightly so as you’re painting, you can get all sides evenly.. and using painters tape to protect the areas you don’t want painted.

Also using Retique It to cover up laminate because laminate is not wood so you can’t stain it. Retique It contains actual wood fibers that makes it stainable. So instead of having to replace the entire top of this dresser, we were able to create a faux wood look.

This little spray can attachment is one of those “why didn’t I buy this sooner?” tools.

If you use spray primer, spray paint, or clear coat in a can, this makes it so much easier on your hand. Instead of pressing that tiny nozzle over and over, you get more control, a better grip, and less finger fatigue.

It’s especially helpful when you’re spraying edges, trim, curves, or smaller furniture projects where pulling out the big sprayer feels like too much.

Tiny tool. Big difference.

I’ve been using Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series on furniture, and I’m so glad I took the leap.

When we first started flipping, we used cheaper paint. And there’s nothing wrong with that. We can still get our pieces looking great with the right prep and technique no matter what brand of paint we use.

But I wasn’t prepared for how much of a difference it would make using the Gallery Series.

If you spray your pieces and want a smoother, harder, more professional finish, it’s worth looking into. Yes it’s pricey, but oh my word is it worth it once you see how it performs.

❗NOTE: it is spray-only paint.

It is not made to be brushed or rolled. Sherwin-Williams specifically says Gallery Series is formulated for spray application only, including airless, HVLP, air-assisted airless, or conventional sprayers.

Why I love it:
• It dries fast
• It levels beautifully when sprayed correctly
• It gives more of that factory-finish look
• It has a hard, durable finish
• It is low odor

It is also self-sealing, which means primer is not always required, but that does not mean you can skip prep. Prep still matters. Cleaning, sanding, removing dust, choosing the right primer when needed, and spraying in the right conditions all affect the final result.

And no topcoat necessary.

I’m definitely hooked!

Pricing used to be the part that made me second-guess everything. I’d finish a piece I was proud of, then immediately wonder if I was “good enough” to charge what I actually want.

Now I use a simple pricing ladder before I list. It helps me stop letting imposter syndrome choose the number.

This is why I track the numbers after every flip.

I bought this Victorian chest for $15.

I spent $31 on materials.

It sold for $425.

That left me with $379 in profit, an 89% profit margin, and about $53/hr for the time I had into it.

But here’s the part that matters most:

A profitable flip usually starts before the first coat of product ever touches the piece.

It starts with choosing the right furniture.

This one had the things I look for:
solid structure, pretty wood grain, classic shape, working drawers, and enough character to make buyers stop scrolling.

A cheap piece is not automatically a good piece.

A free piece is not automatically a profitable piece.

And a pretty makeover is not automatically a good business decision.

The real goal is not just to make furniture look better.

The goal is to make decisions that actually pay you back.

That means tracking what you spent, how long it took, what it sold for, and whether the piece was worth the time, space, and energy it required.

Because once you start looking at your flips like a business, your buying decisions change.

And that is where the profit starts.

The one thing I will never do is apologize for charging for my time and skill.

It means I’m not pricing only the paint, the hardware, or the cost of the dresser.

I’m pricing the whole decision.

The hours spent sourcing, cleaning, repairing, sanding, priming, painting, sealing, styling, photographing, listing, answering messages, and getting the piece ready for someone else’s home.

A finished furniture piece is not just “an old dresser with paint on it.”

It’s a usable, updated, styled, ready-to-bring-home piece that someone didn’t have to fix and refinish themselves.

That has value.

And if you want furniture flipping to be more than an expensive hobby, you have to stop treating your labor like it’s optional.

Charge with confidence.

Not because every buyer will understand it.

Because the right buyer will.
