Not bad for a quick thrift stop on the way to dinner. 🤎

$31 total and I came home with some really good old pieces.

The chair is a W.H. Gunlocke Chair Co. chair from Wayland, New York — the style is often referred to as a jury/juror chair or Bank of England chair. I love the curved arms, all those narrow wood spindles and, most of all, the original finish and patina. This one is staying with me.

I also found two old aqua Mason jars with one marked “Atlas Strong Shoulder Mason” and the other “Mason’s Patent Nov. 30th 1858.” That 1858 date is the original Mason patent date, not necessarily the date the jar itself was made, but both are such beautiful old pieces of kitchen history.

And then there’s that $5.99 basket. The wear, the darkened wicker, the chunky handles, exactly the kind of patina I’m always looking for.

I went in for a quick look before dinner and came out with a juror chair, two pieces of old kitchen history and one perfectly worn basket.

I’ll take it. 🤎

History hiding in the Goodwill Bins! 🕵️‍♀️ Found this antique Victorian footstool and it is a time capsule. Watch to see the original hand-tied coil springs, burlap, and old-school horsehair/hay stuffing! They truly don't make them like this anymore.

I'll be reusing those heavy-duty original springs but starting fresh with everything else to give this piece a clean, modern lease on life. Stay tuned for the restoration journey! 🛠️❤️

One of my favorite finds from California had to come home with me. 🤎

I found this beautiful antique German mail slot marked “Briefe und Zeitungen,” meaning letters and newspapers. The moment I saw it, I was drawn to it, but knowing my family roots trace back to Germany made it feel even more special.

I love finding old pieces with history, but this one feels a little more personal. It’s not just something beautiful for my home, it feels like a tiny connection to where my family came from.

Definitely one of those Found by Molly treasures I’ll never forget.

California has been so good to me. 🤎

Of course, the best part of this trip has been getting to spend time with my daughter, but she also knows her mama well enough to know that a trip isn’t complete without a little treasure hunting.

We spent some time wandering through antique shops in Hanford and Visalia, and I could have stayed in them for HOURS. Old books, ornate gold frames, beautiful mirrors, busts, carved wood, vintage typewriters, chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and just room after room of beautiful old things.

There’s something about an antique shop that I absolutely love. Nothing matches, everything has a story, and you never know what you’re going to find around the next corner. I love looking at the craftsmanship, the patina and all of those little details that have survived for decades.

And these old California downtowns and antique shops have a beauty all their own. It’s been so much fun exploring somewhere completely different from home and even better getting to do it with Hannah. ❤️

I came to California to spend time with my girl, and the treasure hunting has been a pretty great bonus.

And yes, I may have found a few treasures to bring back to Virginia with me. 😉 Some things are just too good to leave behind.

I may have had one of my best thrift finds yet… and I almost had to leave it behind.

Last night I walked into the thrift store 10 minutes before they closed and spotted this gorgeous drop-leaf table. Of course, my phone died while I was there, so I couldn’t research it nearly as much as I wanted to before they closed.

The problem? I had to leave for the airport at 3:45 this morning.

So I came home, did as much research as I could, and handed the mission over to my husband. 😂 He went back this morning, looked it over for me, and thankfully decided it was worth the gamble. He bought it, loaded it up and brought it home while I headed to California.

And NOW the investigating has really started.

He’s been sending me close-up pictures while I’m traveling, and we’ve found old joinery, slotted screws, what appears to be a cut nail, solid-wood construction, old hardware and markings underneath. Based on everything we’ve found so far, it appears this could be a 19th-century American drop-leaf/gate-leg table, possibly dating somewhere around 1850–1880.

I’m still researching and absolutely not pretending to be an antique furniture expert, so if any of my antique-loving friends recognize the construction or markings, I would LOVE your input.

And as if that wasn’t enough, last week I scored FOUR Hitchcock-style rush-seat chairs for $70.

Tell me those chairs and this table weren’t just waiting for each other. 😍

THIS is why I love thrifting. You never know when the thing sitting in the corner of a thrift store is going to send you down a 150-year-old rabbit hole.

I cannot wait to get home and see this thing in person. ❤️

This is one of those thrift finds that unexpectedly made me a little emotional.

I picked up this beautiful two-volume 1946 Funk & Wagnalls New Practical Standard Dictionary set mostly because, well… look at them. The maroon covers, gold lettering, and those gorgeous marbled page edges had me immediately.

But then I opened one.

Written inside:

“From the private collection of Colonel Pierre A. Kleff
Given to My Daughter Mary
25 November 1991.”

Of course I had to start looking him up. And what makes it even more interesting is that we found these books at a thrift store up around the Dumfries/Dale City area — the same general area connected to Colonel Kleff.

These books were already nearly 50 years old when he gave them to his daughter in 1991. And now, 35 years after that inscription was written, somehow the complete A–L and M–Z set stayed together and ended up sitting on a thrift-store shelf for me to find.

I know they’re “just old books,” but this is the part of thrifting I love. Sometimes you bring home something beautiful and discover that you also brought home a tiny piece of someone’s story.

I have no idea how these eventually made their way out of Mary’s hands and into that thrift store, and for some reason that part makes me a little sad. But I’m really glad the two volumes stayed together. ❤️

Completely thrifted. 🤎
Found all FOUR of these vintage Hitchcock-style rush-seat chairs for $70. The gorgeous lace tablecloth was $3 in Myrtle Beach, the vintage horse-and-wagon oil lamp was $4, and the beautiful old Bible came from the Goodwill Bins.

The aesthetic? Priceless.

Months and months of picking up little things at thrift stores because I loved them, with absolutely no idea where they’d eventually end up… and somehow they all found their way together 🤎

100% of this little baking corner is thrifted! I didn't buy these items to fit a specific plan, I just found each piece individually, fell in love with it, and brought it home. It is so rewarding to see how beautifully they all complement one another now that they are displayed together.

The star of this corner is this early-1900s Universal bread crumber made by Landers, Frary & Clark in New Britain, Connecticut. Before you could just buy a container of breadcrumbs, these little hand-cranked grinders were used to turn stale bread and crackers into crumbs. If you look closely at its handle, it reveals an incredible piece of living history! While it has the original 1897 patent date on the bottom, the dense cluster of international patent stamps on the crank arm, listing Great Britain, France, Belgium, and Imperial Germany, pinpoints its exact manufacturing window to between 1900 and 1914.

From the vintage glassware and warm wood tones to a mechanical powerhouse over 110 years old, I love that things that once had a practical place in someone else’s kitchen can find a completely new, unified life in mine. This is why I thrift. 🤎
