As a male person of color, I found out fairly quickly how exclusive the quilt community can be. After one year of sewing/quilting, I decided that to find community you sometimes have to create community.

Along the way I began to find others who shared the same values of inclusion, kindness, and completion over perfection. That’s why I love String & Story. I don’t get there often (it’s a bit out of the way for me), but if you’re looking for an LQS that is unashamedly inclusive this is the place to go.

A coworker’s mother-in-law made quilts for all her grandchildren. Unfortunately, she passed away before she could finish this quilt for my coworker’s son. 😢

My coworker decided to jump into the world of quilting and finished the top. Her son and his partner (both mathematicians) will soon marry 🏳️‍🌈🎉🍾 and she’ll be gifting at the wedding.

In addition to sewing/quilting, I have a longtime love of singing. Showtunes, opera, the American Songbook, pop ballads - I love it all.

With the craziness going on in our country, I've put together a small event as a way to connect with like-minded people who are mourning the direction our country is headed. I've roped in some local community theater talent, that I have the privilege to perform with.

Thanksgiving break has been a good time to get some quilting done! Finished these two between turkey roasting, pie baking, and time with dear friends. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and are looking forward to the rest of the holiday and Christmas season with those you love.

Now it’s time to finish 6 more projects from this order before moving to 6 memory quilts! A busy season of cutting, sewing, and longarming awaits!
