After facing some medical complications during her last pregnancy she decided to become a stay-at-home mom. She turned a difficult season into something beautiful by building a business that could help support her family financially while still allowing her to stay home with her babies. What she loves most about being a small business owner is being able to stay home while running a business alongside her family. Her kindness, outgoing personality, and dedication to customer service truly make her stand out. ✨ Saturday Night Spotlight ✨

This week, we’re shining a light on one of my absolute favorite local gems: The Painted Turtle Pottery Studio in Mt. Pleasant, MI! 💛

Recently RELOCATED to 1231 North Mission St, Painted Turtle is a one-of-a-kind, paint-your-own pottery studio offering *EVERYTHING* from mugs and wine glasses to light switch covers, jewelry boxes, seasonal décor, plant pieces, and the cutest animal figurines. Whether you’re creating something for your home or a heartfelt gift, there’s truly something for everyone.

What makes this place so special isn’t just the endless shelves of pottery, it’s the experience. When you walk in, they guide you through the process, help turn your vision into a reality, and make sure you leave with something you’re proud of. They even offer private parties for birthdays, bachelorettes, team events, and more!

The studio has been part of the community since 2012, originally created as an art therapy outlet. In 2024, Isabelle took over the business from her former boss; someone who played a huge role in her life growing up. Having worked there since 2019, she just couldn’t bear to see such a special place close, and now she continuing its legacy in the most beautiful way.

Fun fact: the turtles you’ll see in the studio are actually red-eared sliders that were donated years ago and, while the studio isn’t named after them, they’ve definitely become part of its charm 🐢

Their most popular items? Drinkware like mugs, wine glasses, and shot glasses. And don’t forget, their kid-favorite animal figurines! Isabelle and The Painted Turtle also work closely with local schools to create custom auction pieces and love helping customers bring life to their creative ideas.

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU ARE A STYLIST WHO SPECIALIZES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CLIENTS?!”

Let me explain:

Even before Landon was born (nine long years ago) I was working in a salon that helped me specialize in taking clients with special needs (differently abled, mobility issues, language barriers..) and autism.

Now, I get to give that back to my community.

I work with special tools, techniques and PATIENCE to provide a fun, low stimulating environment and PAIN FREE experience for MY clients, THEIR individual needs and give them THE TIME, and ATTENTION they deserve.

My clients are NOT a paycheck, THEY ARE MY REASON and family.

My eldest son is not only autistic, but has cerebral palsy and epilepsy.. so when you bring your loved one to me, know they’re in CAPABLE hands.

Made for long days outdoors and slow evenings in the yard.

This simple, old-style balm is crafted with tallow, olive oil, and beeswax; then blended with a mix of herbs and woods to help keep bugs at bay.

Smooth a little onto skin before heading out to the garden, the field, or the fire.
Light, earthy, and made the way things used to be. (Without all the toxic stuff. 😉)

When confronted with the questions “Why $30 for an 8 oz jar of body butter?” The short answer is: 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭

But “doing it all” means late nights researching ingredients and perfecting recipes. It means sourcing every oil, butter, and container—sometimes waiting on shipments, sometimes driving to pick them up myself. It’s measuring, mixing, whipping, and testing until it’s just right.

It’s designing every label, filling every jar, and packaging every order by hand. While I have family and friends (for whom I am eternally grateful) that lend a helping hand from time to time, NOTHING is outsourced. Every step, from idea to finished product, happens right here.

So when you support my small business, you’re not just buying body butter—you’re supporting time, effort, passion, and a whole lot of heart and soul.

And as I get ready for my next craft show, just know: every jar on that table has a story behind it. 💛
