Shop/Life Update:

This post is an emotional one for me!

The past two years spent starting and running Reclaimed Commodities have been a dream come true. It took so long for me to gather the courage and confidence to leave my stable life as a literacy specialist to follow my heart and start something new. The way that this business has morphed and grown is beyond anything I could’ve hoped for, and to be able to live out your passion is an experience I wish for everyone.

While this is not the exit from the shop I’d anticipated, my fiancé James, who many of you know, received a job offer that he could not refuse in Boulder, so we have relocated to Colorado.

I am so thankful for the many of you that have followed along and supported me at each leg of this journey! I brought all of my equipment and will have a workshop here where I will still be refinishing and creating, so if that’s why you’re here, please stay. Otherwise, I am so appreciative of all of you who’ve made my time doing business on the North Shore the wonderful experience that it was.

I hope more than anything, you will continue to try to reuse and reclaim before buying new, as there is so much beauty to be polished out from underneath a dated surface.

I think these dated/orange maple to blonde/natural maple dressers are becoming my brand!™️😉

This one needed some TLC but was well worth the time and effort. It had multiple splits in the side that were filled and repaired, and the bottom was cut off to make for a sleeker appearance.

I sanded it down to natural wood, sealed it using High Performance Topcoat, and added new legs and pulls.

🤍Recently refinished this solid tiger oak dining table! The table top was sanded down to natural wood, conditioned, and sealed.

The bottom was sanded down, and painted with Alabaster shade of milk paint. I was pleasantly surprised by how bright and beautiful this one turned out to be.

This Pottery Barn farmhouse coffee table made for one of the most satisfying refinishing projects I’ve done so far! It was given to me by a friend who was going to refinish it and never got around to it. It’s extremely well made and sturdy, so I jumped right on it.

Every surface was sanded down about a half an inch to past the water stains and back to the beautiful natural wood below (this is why it’s important to know if something is truly solid wood, or a veneer before getting started). The top was sealed with Arm-R-Seal topcoat. The bottom was painted with my favorite shade of their milk paint, Coastal Blue, and sealed with their high performance topcoat.

🌿 Recently refinished this cute little kitchen cart that it is now available in the shop! The top is solid maple and the shelves are oak-all wood was sanded down to its original state and sealed with protective Arm-R-Seal topcoat. The body was painted using their milk paint in the Basil shade, and the wheels were replaced. One side has mug hooks, and the other has a push bar that can be used as a towel rack. 🌟Recently refinished this gorgeous sideboard and dining table. These pieces were constructed using mostly tiger and bird’s eye maple, some of the most beautiful variations of wood to exist.

The existing finish was sanded off and the pieces were brought down to natural wood. The goal was to end up with a lighter shade and enhance the gorgeous grain that was hidden under the original stain, so the pieces were sealed with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal protective topcoat (semi-gloss).

HAPPY EARTH DAY!🌎💚💙

Did you know that furniture is one of the most difficult things to dispose of? Contemporary, or “fast”, furniture is often manufactured using numerous materials, including wood, metal, and various types of plastic-many of which are difficult to recycle. This leads to nearly 85% of furniture going straight to landfill.

I know it’s hard to pass up the perfect color, size, and overnight shipping of the item you need/want on Wayfair or Amazon, but Earth Day is a great time to reflect on the far-reaching impacts these buying habits have. We may not be affected by the growing culture of one-click shopping at the moment, but we need to seriously consider the problems we are creating for our children and future generations.

Environmental preservation is the driving force behind my entrepreneurial endeavors at Reclaimed Commodities, so I sincerely thank those of you who have supported my business, and inadvertently, our planet!

I hope everyone has a chance to get outside on this gorgeous day and remember all the wondrous things we have to protect.

🗃This campaign style chest is perfect for those in need of storage! This classic stackable set has not only one whole open unit, but also a functioning drawer to keep things organized.

This piece was sanded down, primed, and painted with coastal blue milk paint. It was sealed with their High Performance Topcoat (satin), so it has protection if it’s used as a coffee table or bench at the end of a bed. All of the original hardware was cleaned and polished to shine once again. The inside was in amazing condition, so all it needed was a little conditioning with ’s furniture salve.

It is available and on the floor at the shop. Stop by 12-5 today if you want to take a closer look!

🍒This solid cherry dresser was one of the most naturally beautiful, and highest quality pieces I have worked on. One of the things that is so great about cherry is that it is an impressively sturdy variation of wood, but still has has the mesmerizing grain and swirls of softer wood species.

The original bulky hardware left an imprint due to sun bleaching that I couldn’t get through with sanding, so the drawers had to be planed 1/2 inch to get to a uniform color. After that was done, everything was sanded down, conditioned, and sealed using Arm-R-Seal protective topcoat (satin)…my favorite product. If I didn’t have to sell these projects to support myself, I would’ve kept this one!😉
