One of the conversations about the issues with AI and stained glass patterns specifically is

"Oh but that AI pattern worked for me"
Yes, but at what cost was that to someone else?

Example below:
1: I asked it to generate a pattern
It produced an entirely non workable pattern

2: I fed it my design as the prompt
It still produced a pretty bad pattern in terms of practicality, but notice the cuts, especially around the lotus area.

It went from entirely unworkable cuts to mimicking my pattern, making the cuts workable.

AI does not understand the perimeters of stained glass.

It doesn't understand the point of the off lines, they view them closer to a stylised mosiac. Pointless and for the aesthetic of it being told it's stained glass.

If you bought a workable AI pattern, for that pattern to be workable, it was fed someone else's work directly.

If you can find the original creator, buy from them.
If that isn't available, just save the image and trace it.

(This is my own moral stance and yours may vary, but you can't mass produce stained glass as a home hobbyist who might sell some Suncatchers at a market 🤷)

Do not financially support theft directly to the thief.
(Aka Etsy AI pattern sellers with 5k plus sales in 2 months)

It hurts what is already a dying craft, we all know that stained glass isn't a money maker for the vast majority of us, but funding the AI Etsy pattern sellers hurts real makers even more by taking away what little revenue there is to be had.

This week is the end of spring semester for our homeschool co-op and my ✨ArT sTuDiO✨ courses!

Yesterday was the last day for my Indiana History class "Gas & Glass BOOM!". We had a fun semester and learned a lot about how the gas boom helped and hurt IN and glass history. Very interesting subject, I'd love to offer that class again soon in my art studio. Perhaps with more hands-on glass experiences. Stay tuned.

Today was the last day in my ✨ArT sTuDiO✨ for the "Intro to Stained Glass" course. We covered SO MUCH information in our 8 weeks together; stained glass basics like cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, cleaning, polishing, pricing... So, so much info. I'm really proud of my student's progress! I am inspired to offer an "Advanced Stained Glass" course in the fall. Keep your eyes open 👀

Tomorrow we will be finishing "Intro to Glass Mosaics" and "Intro to Mixed Media" in my ✨ArT sTuDiO✨. I can't wait to see their final projects all wrapped-up!

Is there any interest on a specific subject for summer ✨ArT sTuDiO✨ courses?

What are your students excited to learn about in the fall?

This was 3 years ago!

Back then, I was making a lot of stained glass terrariums for upcoming spring events and this multi-media piece. The TV w/ stained glass panel is now finished and is being used as an ambient lamp in my ✨ArT sTuDiO✨.

Time flies!

I'm baaaaaack!

Last week was kinda nuts. I taught my students on Monday (Indiana History "Gas & Glass Boom!") and Tuesday (Intro to Stained Glass) but also... TAXES 🥴. Yeah, I should've gotten them done sooner but I didn't 😅🤷‍♀️. Then I got caught-up on filing paperwork and organization... Boring clerical stuff but it was all necessary. So that was a bit draining.

Anyway. That's all done now so I've gotten back into the kitchen and my ✨ArT sTuDiO✨.

Today's baking project is apple fritter muffins. We life to eat them for a quick breakfast. I made a double batch so I will be freezing some this time. Hopefully they thaw well! 🤞

Hope you're having a great week! The weather outside is perfect today!

I forgot to share the progress from this week's "Intro to Stained Glass" class!

It's crazy to believe we only have 3 classes left in this semester's stained glass course 😮. Time has flown by!

This week my student finished cutting & grinding several more pieces for their lady bug window panel. They completed their background using a brown Spectrum baroque glass and began working on the buggy's legs/body. Hopefully they can finish the cutting and grinding next week then move on to foiling! 🙌

Glass & pattern choices were made by the student with my assistance. As I always say... I can't wait to see it all finished and placed in a window!

Today in "Intro to Mixed Media" we worked with oil pastels. We learned several different techniques using oil pastels: light & heavy pressure blending, monoprinting, layering with watercolors & sgraffito.

I'm excited to use some of these pages as part of our collage project in the final week.

I spent most of yesterday & today baking in the kitchen. If I have the oven on, the mixer out & a flour-y mess on the counter... I might as well make a s**t ton of baked goods. Right? 🤣🤔

This week is gunna get a little busy!

Homeschool co-op is tomorrow. I teach an Indiana history class I named "Gas & Glass Boom!" I also assist in a specimen dissection class. It's super fun and the students are being troopers so far! Each week has been a different specimen which is fun.

Tuesday will be "Intro to Stained Glass". My student will be working on their lady bug glass panel.

Wednesday will be "Intro to Glass Mosaics" & "Intro to Mixed Media". Mixed media last week was soft pastels. We played around with blending and layering. This week will be oil pastels. It's such a relaxing and fun class where we just play around with new mediums and explore the differences between the different kinds of tools etc.

Anyway... It's nice to have some meal prep done before the week starts. Do you meal prep? Do you participate in art classes?

Today, the students made progress on a couple more mosaics in the "Intro to Glass Mosaics" class. One mosaic got cleaned and we added the hanging hardware to the back. The other mosaic was grouted using a translucent epoxy grout.

Both students also started working on their next project which is glass mosaic on a terracotta pot. Can't wait to see what they end up making next!
