Always plug your space heater directly into a wall outlet. Never use an extension cord or surge protector, as they can overheat and start a fire. Keep the heater at least three feet away from anything flammable and never leave it unattended.

This photo is from an incident where an overheated surge protector caused significant damage.

🚨 We need your help! The Town of Hampstead is currently experiencing a large draw on our water system, which is typically a sign of a significant leak somewhere in Town. 🚨

With the recent cold weather, it’s possible that a pipe may have frozen and then burst. We are asking residents to help us locate the source as quickly as possible.

🔍 How you can help:
• Please check outdoor hose bibs and any visible plumbing on your property
• If you are the owner of, or have access to, a vacant property, we kindly ask that you check on that property as well

⚠️ Signs of a leak at a vacant property may include:
• Steamy or fogged windows
• Water or ice flowing across the yard, sidewalk, or roadway
• A hissing or running-water sound inside the building

📞 See something suspicious?
• Please report it to the Town Office at 410-239-7408 as soon as possible.

Thank you for helping us protect our water system and keep our community running smoothly—we truly appreciate your assistance! 💧

Remember ever second counts in a fire. With the impending weather please keep this in your mind when shoveling or plowing snow.
Keep fire hydrants clear of snow by shoveling a 3-foot radius around them and creating a path to the street, ensuring they are visible. Buried hydrants waste critical seconds during fire emergencies. Clear snow and ice from all sides, and consider helping neighbors who may be unable to do so.
Key Safety Measures
Clear 3 Feet Around: Ensure a 3-foot (36-inch) radius of clear space around the entire circumference of the hydrant.
Create a Path: Shovel a path from the hydrant to the street.
Visibility: Ensure the hydrant is easily visible from the street.
Prevent Blockage: Do not pile snow back onto the hydrant.
Time Savings: A clear hydrant saves fire crews precious time during a blaze.
Responsibility: Property owners are generally responsible for clearing the hydrant nearest to their home.
Why It Matters
Immediate Access: Fire trucks carry limited water; immediate access to a hydrant is vital for fire fighting.
Winter Risks: House fires are more frequent in winter, making accessible hydrants crucial.
Accessibility: A clear area allows for quick hose connection.

With more winter weather approaching, please remember that per Town Code it is the responsibility of the homeowner to clear their sidewalks of any snow and ice within 24 hours after the snow has stopped.
Thank you for helping to keep our Town's sidewalks safe!
