It feels weird to celebrate this day when it seems like collectively our society has given up on protecting the planet through embracing water and energy wasting use of AI and sending our tax dollars to pointless war that destroys human lives and the environment. Despite the heavy feelings of hopelessness, I am committed to believing that even small things add up and we have more power than they want us to think. I even made a zine about it! It’s REALLY challenging as a small business owner right now, but every time you support an independently owned shop instead of giving money to Amazon/Target/etc, that money stays in our community and helps financially support the future we can build together.

I started Rosemarine Textiles because I didn’t want to spend my one wild and precious life contributing to the fast fashion industry. I worked in fabric sourcing in children’s clothing after I graduated college and witnessed firsthand the wastefulness and lack of care towards the humans making our clothing in the Global South. I wanted to be an artist. I wanted to create beautiful things that are handmade with love and in tune with nature. I wanted to use plant dyes and these historic processes that take days – something that flies in the face of our culture of moving quickly and optimization. Rosemarine Textiles has had many different versions, but one thing has always been true - it’s been about approaching small business in a way that is sustainable for humans and for our world. I always only work with plant dyes and natural fibers like cotton, linen, and silk. I hand dye each fabric with plant materials that I either grow myself or purchase from a trusted supplier who has vetted the sources. I ship all my packages in mailers from Eco Enclose and I never work with Uline. I print most of my zines on secondhand paper from Arts & Scraps. I reuse water as much as possible in my studio. I have a page on my website here where I list some of my sustainability policies and what I do to reduce my impact.

This week Detroit is hosting a giant pottery conference called NCECA! There are thousands of pottery heads wandering our streets and I thought what better way to welcome them to Detroit then to share about some of my absolute favorite places that I’d like to go :-) I hope you enjoy your time here and if you are seeing this and you live in Detroit, let me know what places I should add to my Google map of recommendations (linked in bio)

I have added more items to my Studio Clear Out Sale!

I have these pieces that I hand crafted in my studio with so much love. This process takes multiple days to plant dye, cut, sew and craft each scrunchie, bow and pillow by hand.

I really want to make room in my studio for a new collection of craft-focused pieces. Think along the lines of my Quilt Kits, and Dye Kits.

For the next 2 weeks, I will be offering 50% off all the items I am discontinuing. This includes: plant dyed scrunchies, pillows, bandanas, silk hair bows, wool scarves, organic cotton socks, linen napkin sets, baseball hats, beanies, and silk ribbons.

After December 12th, I will be putting this inventory in storage and removing it from my website. I am HOPING to sell it all by then. If you buy now, you will receive 50% off everything including items that have never been available before. This is your last chance to purchase these items before they are gone forever from my shop.

This discount is automatically applied, no discount code needed.
