Free Macrame Patterns

Free Macrame Patterns The website Free Macrame Patterns is available UNTIL MARCH to
anyone who wants to learn to tie decorative knots.

A new series of books is being written to take the place of the website. This page will soon be changed to be more educational. The purpose of this page is to continue my mission to educate others on the basic knots and techniques required to make Macrame projects.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ: Over the next month, I will be re-arranging things on this page. Later, I will be changing the name as well. My intention is to use this page as a place for information about Macrame that will not be in my books. Like info about various cord materials, how to determine cord lengths, odd ball knot patterns, videos I make, etc. I need to re-work the page so it flows well. Don't be surprised if things get moved or are missing. Contact me if you have questions or concerns.

This is an example of the photos that will be in the first book. The circles fit the "World of Macrame" theme really well! And we decided to make sure purple was part of the color scheme, since it is on the website.

The title I have decided to use for my series of books is "The Galaxy of Knots". The images are circular, to represent "worlds". The first book is underway and is "Entering the World of Macrame" with designs based on the Square Knot. My focus is going to be on teaching the most common knots, but I will be adding others that are rarely used anymore. Each book will be a different type of knot. So the next book will be devoted to Half Hitches, the following on Mounting and Finishing techniques, etc. I have decided to go with printed books for the first two, but after that we will consider E-books an option. I have to learn how to write all over again, so one thing at a time is best right now (LOL).

Sorry for the flip-flop in my plans. I really had hoped to just update the existing site this year, but the hosting costs have gone up. I just can't afford them anymore. And the site is OLD. I think a series of books will be more helpful to people. I already have a program and am in the early planning stages of what I want to include in each book. There will be several of them, each for a different class of knots. They will be inexpensive, in full color, with plenty of photos. I will have knot instructions along with small projects described in full detail. The information on my website will be in the books, and I will also have it available in my files if anyone needs the original version. I posted this here today on purpose. This is my intention and with your support, will do everything I can to get it DONE! Contact me via messenger or email if you have questions.

IMPORTANT: I am so sorry, but I have decided that due to several factors, my website is not going to remain active much longer. My plan is to create either a series of new books or videos with some of the same information rather than update a 19 year old website that is outdated. A series of books about unique knots that can be used for Macrame is one option I am considering. There is no book on the subject as far as I can tell. Describing various 3D Macrame projects would make a good series of books, too. The site will remain active until the end of March. After the site is shut down, I will still have the information and people can contact me to obtain some of it. But it would be best if you begin to print and/or save pages you want to keep for reference.

Found out there is confusion about obtaining the free patterns from the website. Because it is 19 years old, you cannot download the patterns. You can print them, or save the pages. Every computer is different, so just experiment to find the best way to get the info. Same thing with phones. Feel free to post details for what works and what does not.

More info about the website: HUGE, lots of photos, almost 200 knots described in detail. And you get detailed advice if you contact me. Right now I am practicing knots, so I can be of help again.

Just want to give my new followers information. This page is associated with a website with the same name. It's an older site, but has loads of useful information on Macrame. Especially how to tie over 150 knots! This year I will be making updates and adding projects.

I changed the post about the cord material I have to get rid of. It's free, but you need to pay for shipping. It's available to anyone, even those outside the USA.
I also have a box of Satin cord (nylon). Same terms.

12/28/2025

I have a box of micro-macrame cord in 0.5 to 2mm sizes. It's mostly remnants, but each piece is at least 5 yards long. H**p, cotton, nylon, satin. Contact me if interested.
Price : Free, just pay shipping.

Our Story

Macrame is the ancient craft of making beautiful designs using decorative knots. This vintage craft has been around for over 1000 years, and it is slowly increasing in popularity once again. To get the free patterns, go to my website, www.free-macrame-patterns.com. It contains tutorials for many basic and unique decorative knots, a variety of Macrame projects, a dictionary, and more. All the images you see on this page are Macrame projects currently on my site, described in full detail.

This website has been active for 10 years, and still has a tremendous amount of visitors. In 2018, each page is being updated with new photos and information. Please feel free to contact me via my website if you have questions about Macrame.
