The Wooden Shutter, LLC Simply styled. Beautifully collected. Hand-crafted art. Shop gifts and decor. Do you know the story of our name The Wooden Shutter? The possibilities are endless.

When beginning a business, you need to come up with a name that you will love for a long time. It should have meaning and remind you of the purpose of your business. For us, the name came from the simplicity of a wooden shutter. One that you find covered in chippy paint, leaning against the wall at the local barn sale. One that may be overlooked because its beauty has diminished over time. One that you can purchase for $5 because the owner just wants to get rid of it. But it is never just a "wooden shutter." Think of all of the things a "wooden shutter" can become...a bench, a shelf, a snowman, an angel. You can bring that "wooden shutter" back to life and restore it to it's original beauty and more. We wanted this to represent what we do in our business. We take old wooden pallets and bring them to life with our paintings. We find that discounted item that no one wanted and make it into a gorgeous centerpiece. We celebrate the original character of all the things we find. We hope you love what we make here at The Wooden Shutter. It is truly our life's dream to be able to share what we do with all of you. There’s something so special about mixing your Halloween pieces instead of decorating with them all separately. 🖤

Pairing our signs together creates a more collected, polished look—then layering in old-world frames, vintage books, aged wood, candlelight and a few perfectly spooky details gives it that cozy, slightly haunted old-world feeling we love.

It doesn’t have to feel like Halloween took over the house. Sometimes it’s just a few thoughtful pieces that make the whole room feel a little more magical. 🕯️🎃

We have a little bit of exciting news to share… 🤎

We’re MOVING upstairs at The Painted Mill! 🎉

Our little space is growing, and we’re so excited to be moving to the second floor and creating a space that feels even more like us.

More room for our hand-painted signs, collected treasures, seasonal pieces, and all those little details that make a space feel warm, cozy and a little bit unexpected.

We’ve been dreaming about how we’ll style it, and we can already picture it coming together.

It’s funny how these little steps can feel so big.

What started with a few handmade pieces has slowly grown into something we’re truly proud of — and we’re so grateful for every person who has stopped, looked, purchased, shared, encouraged us, or simply said, “I love this.” 🤎

We can’t wait to show you what we’re creating upstairs!

I was surprised that even though the rain was falling and the skies were gray, so many people came to enjoy the warmth and coziness of the old mill. 🧡
