Creekside Caning

10/14/2026

It's been a great start to this week at Creekside Caning! I just finished up a restoration on this beautiful antique sofa arm that has double sided pressed cane. I recaned both faces, made several small repairs, and handmade a new curved trim piece for the front edge of the arm! I love projects like this that test a wide array of my skills!

I would love to restore YOUR antique/heirloom pieces!

Nice little repair job to start the week! The rail along the back and one of the bottom rungs were broken completely in half when it was brought to me. I put them back together, pinned them for added strength, and refinished the affected areas. I couldn't make the repairs invisible as though they never happened, but much like scars on people, these will add to the story of the chair, and show that someone loved it enough to have it repaired.

Thank you all for your continued trust in me to restore and repair YOUR antique/heirloom chairs!

This week I refurbished this beautiful rocking chair that belonged to my customer's mother, and ottoman that belonged to her father! This was a really fun project as the chair originally had a cushion supported by springs, so I had to build the frame for the woven seat that I did! To restore the ottoman I made and stained 5 new slats to match, and reused the fabric from the original chair cushion to recover the cushion on the stool so that it now matches the rocking chair!

I would love to restore YOUR antique/heirloom pieces!

‼️FOR SALE‼️

I've spent the last several days restoring this set of 4 ladder back chairs and they could be YOURS!

These were in pretty rough shape when I got them, but I stripped 3 layers of paint off of them, made a new rung for one, primed and painted all of them with a beautiful soft green paint, and wove new rush fiber seats on to all of them, which have been sealed to prevent staining from spills!

These are currently on display in-store at Affordable Florals and Furniture in the Hargett Music Building at 2301 Hwy 31, NW, Hartselle, AL, 35640 where you can see them in person and decide if they would be the right addition for YOUR home!

I put my heart and soul into these projects and would be honored to know they are being used and appreciated for years to come!

Set of 4: $450

One year ago I took a massive leap of faith and started Creekside Caning! I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported me by allowing me to restore your antique and heirloom chairs in the past year. This year has been such a wonderful learning experience and I am so excited to continue serving North Alabama with all of your caning, rush fiber, and restoration projects! Please take a moment to share some of my posts of projects I have completed this year and help me keep spreading the word that I am here and raring to breathe new life into YOUR antique cane chairs!

Love and blessings,
Grant Wallace, Creekside Caning

Howdy y'all, I'm Grant, founder of Creekside Caning! I discovered rattan caning at the start of 2025 and fell in love with the intricate craftsmanship that it requires. I'm excited to be opening for business to serve North Alabama and preserve this disappearing art. If you have chairs that need recaned or or rush fiber chairs that need rewoven give me a call or text at 256-286-7087 or message me here on Facebook! I would love to help breathe new life into your old chairs!

Over the past week I had the opportunity to do my first lace cane to pressed cane conversion! I'm absolutely thrilled with how this project turned out! In addition to converting the seat to pressed cane, I made 4 new rungs to go between the front and back legs, and repaired the 2 rungs between the front legs. This chair is now sturdied up and ready to last for many more years!

I would love to restore YOUR antique caned chairs!

Did you know cats love woven seats also? This week I redid these barstools for some friends whose feline fur babies had used the seats as scratching surfaces. Rather than trying to weave the new seat on the wooden inserts that the originals were on, I did rush fiber seats woven directly onto the frame of the stools. This made for a prettier surface, and a more comfortable seat!
