Challenge day 2 … drawing number 2

It’s funny, I’ve been doing a lot of doubting lately… comparing my art to others, noticing how slow selling is, feeling like what I make isn’t really liked, noticed, appreciated, misunderstood, judged… doubt, anxiety, fear are such creativity killers…

If you’re feeling stuck too….

Close your eyes, feel what you’re feeling, and express it.
Everyone has a voice, a perspective, a presence… what are you trying to say?

First time I ever worked with oil, I fell in love. It was in college at 🐂 I had this painting featured in the hallways and remember feeling seen for the first time (outside of family and family friends)
The colors so vibrant, so rich. A depth I never knew I could attain… the only thing is the process is longer, the clean up is harder, and the space must be children free. I know in the art world acrylic is liked down upon and not truly high art, but I can attest that to be furthest from the truth. I believe a master at his or her craft is someone who can use any type of material and make something ordinary- extraordinary. Where the common Joe or Jill could buy exactly what you use but could never replicate what you’ve created. The more you experiment, the more a medium deepens its complexity in using it! I would say my biggest go to challenge with my art nowadays is mark making, being intuitive but also responsive, and pushing myself towards something beyond my comfort zone… have you noticed that painting done in acrylic vs oil have a different feel?

One of the first paintings I did, posted and sold the same day. Sometimes a painting finds its home that quickly, other times it takes longer, the best part is when the connection happens. What gets you to stop in your tracks with a painting?

The art I did in Kauai in 2019… I went through a lot that year. Left New York City in 2017, to find myself in the middle of the jungle on north shore of Maui in a tent alone at night, no wifi for miles, no one I knew (I was waiting for my dear Friend to arrive) and totally outside of my comfort zone… I grew a lot the next following years. Realizing more than ever that this life is really made up of choices.
Have you taken an opportunity you had no idea wha the future would hold and now grateful for it?

A painting I stated in my studio/apartment in

The first time I walked into the room I told my dad, oh this must be the closet. Hahahaha the saving grace? It had 12 foot ceilings, and my dad helped me build a loft bed in two days, where we had to carry wood up four flights of stairs without an elevator to the building haha… oh New York, thank you for the memories

Last one for the day…
I’ve made a rule with myself and I have never broken it… I dare not to ever… if I work on something and do not finish it -as a plein air drawing or painting, than it is done.
Almost like the memory it has now become, it is.

This is one of them…

When I lived there for a year… one of those days I went exploring and felt like a was back in Paris but I was simply seeing the famous Washington square arch… the laughter, the passersby, the life and lives, South a beautiful moment.

As much as I love the figure and push my imagination further, my mind also takes a “rest” in drawing, or panting what is in front me and inspires the moment…. This is one of them-
