Just wrapped up this custom desktop for a client and all I can say is… WOW.
The spalting and chatoyance in this beech are absolutely unreal — one of those pieces that looks different every time the light hits it. The epoxy work really ties everything together and complements the natural character of the wood perfectly.
Projects like this are why I love working with unique lumber. Every slab tells its own story. Check the comments for videos that can only kinda show you the actual beauty of this desktop.

It’s been quite awhile since my last post, but don’t fear, another project is out the door! I am very happy with how this turned out. This is the 1st totally custom piece of furniture Feather & Grain has produced and I’m very happy with it and so is the customer!

This beautiful slab of old-growth redwood made its way into my shop today—and it’s truly something special.
The figure is incredible, the shape is wild, and the character is unlike anything I’ve worked with before. What makes it even better is the story behind it… this piece was salvaged from the California wildfires, and you can still see some of the charring on the back.
There’s something pretty powerful about giving new life to a piece of wood with that kind of history. What would you like to see it become?

Another river table coming to life 🌊🪵
This one’s getting a little extra character. Natural live edges paired with a stone-filled epoxy river for a clean but organic look. Every project starts as raw material and slowly turns into something completely one-of-a-kind.

After a long wait, this cherry desk is finally complete, and I couldn’t be more excited about how it turned out. This was actually the very first slab of wood I ever purchased, which makes this project especially meaningful to finally see finished.
The monitor stand features a waterfall edge, easily my favorite detail of the entire build. The natural character of the cherry really came alive with the finish, highlighting every grain line and imperfection that makes the piece unique.
