I've added a couple feathered friends this week! They're so fun to make. As you assemble the stones their little faces take shape and you can't help but smile 😊

I love flat stones! I always pick them up, sometimes hardly believing how thin. I decided to try something a bit different with them. I stacked them, playing off of the colors and shapes, and am really liking the end result. I manipulated the color of the barn wood to pull in the stone color and my charming assistant made the frames. 😊

Earlier this summer we trekked across the bridge to the Upper Peninsula for our annual Northwoods Friends visit. On the way we spent a bit of time at one of my favorite places hunting for driftwood. I found some really nice boards which little by little are turning into finished projects. Here's one of the first. I'm adding new things every week at floatinteriors.etsy.com.

I love the natural color of the driftwood I collect, but I also love the bright, beachy colors of summer. The unique shapes of the beach sticks, the colors and the perfect shade of green beach glass made this a very fun piece to create.

You never know where your inspiration will come from. My 'sewing' brain had saved this blouse image a while back because I really liked the style, blend of colors and fabric. Recently, I started in on a stone project and realized I was gravitating toward the same colors. As luck would have it (ha, ha) I also had a perfect piece of driftwood. There's a lot going on in this piece. You can see the full description, a video and detail shots at the link provided in the comments below.

Ok, so my whale wears red lipstick! 😊
This one was really fun to make. To show off the grain of the driftwood I painted it in various shades of deep blue using a variegated wash technique.
